My car started acting funny the other day after my alt went crazy. I replaced the alt and still had an issue. The dizzy was squeaking pretty bad so I got a new unit. Got to TDC, marked the rotor position, pulled the dizzy and dropped the new one in and everything went back in the way it came out. I tried to start it and it turns over but wont stay running unless I keep the throtle pressed slightly. I cleaned the IAC and still have problems. I can't seem to find any air leaks. Got it to idle at 650-700 but when I pull the PIP it won't stay running.....

Can anybody please help me???????

UPDATE-
Pulled the KOER and got a 412/bad IAC....... Although it didn't come up the first time I ran it....?
I guess cleaning didn't help it. I'll get a new one and go from there.

are u pulling the spout connector out before u set timing? from the wording it sounds like u have the pip and spout connector mixed up. the pip is the electronic pick up in the dizzy itself, the spout is that gray connector by the intake tube. u pull the spout out and then set timming, then put the spout back in. that 412 may be from the pcm not being able to control idle because of the timming being way off. set at 10* advanced.

Sorry, I think yer right.... I was mis-wording things.....

I'm having trouble getting the car to even idle at this point so I can't set the timing. I lined the marks up on the dizzy/block so I have to be close enough for the car to run atleast. But I tried to clean the IAC and I guess it just needs to be replaced....
Once I can get it to idle I'll make sure to pull the spout before trying to set the timing.

While I was there, I pulled the TB off to clean it as there is alittle gunk in there that can't be helping anything.............

It does run if I keep my foot on the peddle but as soon as I take preassure off it dies so that's how I came to the idea that the IAC was bad. After doing some searching it seems to be a common problem.

If the TB was gunky, while it's off make sure you clean the IAC passageway and ports on the TB as well. Scrape all the old IAC gasket material off the TB. Put a Felpro gasket in there. Also make sure theres no gunk/dirt/dust in the TPS sensor port.

Thanks Magic-
I'll take extra care to make sure it's all spik-n-span before I put it back on.

11* normally isn't a problem. I used to run 14* with 87 octane (Chevron) without pinging at 1400+ feet elevation. You're almost at sea level in Portland. Take a good look at the balancer to see if you can spot any rubber protruding from between the inner and outer rings towards the engine side or any wobble. If anything is happening here the timing is not likely to be what you see it to be.
