So i was going to take my car to the tuner, so i uninstalled my intake, 42# injectors, removed the FMU and replaced them with the OE Cobra intake, the OE #24 and the OE MAF and no FMU. Now keep in mind im running 2 255 inline and intank pumps together. The reason for putting the OE stuff in is i didnt want to drive the car real far without a tune and the car itself ran kinda rough with the 42's with no tune. So i replaced everything to stock when i first put the supercharger on which that combo ran fine itself. (regretting even dicking with that now)

I put the distributor in crank crank *wants to fire* crank crank *wants to fire* and that is it. I double check everything, i was a tooth off, so i go again same thing except this time, same thing but im getting a nasty backfire through the exhaust. I know for certain i am at TDC, when i set the dizzy in place as i used the thumb method in the #1 cylinder. I set everything at 10* made for certain i was on #1, removed the spout connector and still i get nothing. only cranks and backfires. I have all brand new plugs, wires, cap/rotor coil etc which was done prior to this. Im at a loss :BangHead:

Yeah ill go out and check it once again. My whole reason is because i know for 100% certain i was at TDC on the compression stroke at the crank and i put the distributor in on the #1 plug, so i dont understand how it could be 180* out?

yup sounds like your 180 out.... best way to find tdc is to pull # 1 plug and turn the crank with finger over plug hole till you feel pressure pushing your finger out... then look at timing mark and set to 0 put it all togeather and fire it up and set timing....

remember you want the piston coming up to top dead center on the compression stroke

+1 sounds like it's sending a spark when the piston is at TDC, but it's on the exhaust stroke. You'll feel air coming out of the spark plug hole with your thumb on both exhaust and compression strokes. There will obviously be more on the compression stroke though due to the valves being closed. Use a compression tester if you have one to eliminate all doubt. Move the piston up slowly bu using a breaker bar on the crank bolt. If the cylinder holds air you're where you want to be. If that doesn't work, let us know.

Just take it, lift it straight up without turning it,and move the rotor 180 degrees. It's typically whats wrong with it with the way you describe it.

Ohhhhhhhhh i was under the impression that there would be pressure only on the compression stroke, sob, that is probably my issue then. As soon as i get up in the morning i will rotate it 180 and see where we are at. thanks man that would explain it

No problem. The distribtor will only go the way you currently have it and 180 degrees from that position due to its design. If you aren't in one of those two places it won't drop in all of the way.

actually you need to turn the motor 360*. the crank turns twice to the cam 1. so if your 180 out then you need to turn the crank 360. the dizzy is driven off the cam.

I get what you're saying but he may not...too alleviate any confusion, just pull the dizzy straight up, holding the body, spin the rotor 180, drop it back it, set timing, perform burnout
