i've been reading that advancing the timing like 5 deg gives extra power and torque, whats the stock timing? will advancing it hurt anything in the car, or plug up the cats, also is this even worth my time doing this?

stock timing is suposed to be 10 degrees but get a gun and check it before you change it......since alot of balencers turn and arnt right anymore

advancing the timing wont hurt anything, think of it as free HP as long as you dont go to far

I've advanced mine 4 degrees already and after I get my SCT Flip Chip back from the tuner I should be able to go another 4 degrees.

if you go too far with the timing you'll hear pinging under hard acceleration, then just back it off a bit and your good but start with 5deg.

set your timing at 14 degrees...if it doesn't ping, ride with it. MAKE SURE the car is up to temp though. A cold motor may not ping or detonate where as warmed up one will.

what kind of gas you run, you can get away with regular if you advance it 2 or so degrees, but anything higher you'll probably have run the higher grade, what i did was put sunoco's 94 in and went up every 2 degrees untill it pinged and then backed it down a degree, my timing is set at 16/17 degree (really cant tell by my mark), but if i run anything less than the 93/94 octane then it just doesnt like it, and on the bright side advancing the timing from stock to what i have it at now took my 1/4 mile time 2 tenths of a sec faster

If you plan on advancing your timing, put 93 in your tank BEFORE you advance your timing and have it ran through before you do that stuff... You'll be amazed at how many people will advance their timing then put 93 in their cars...
