ran fine the whole way home but at the end of my 25 min commute i got into her and first was fine and halfway through second and it pinged again. i wonder if my egr is gummed up or if i have extreme carbon build up.

Why do you guys run 87 octane? The tank holds what...16 gallons max? Lets do some math. Current San Diego avg for gas is 2.89 for 87....91 octane is 3.09. Now...multiply the difference of 20 cents by 16....$3.20...everytime you fill up. I'm sorry but in MY world, I'll pay $3.20 for the increased performance and safe fuel stability with the increased timing. Think about that for a second. 16 gallons...say you have a heavy foot and get only 18mpg on avg. That nets you. 288 miles to a tank. you drive approx 60 miles per day. Thats almost 5 days worth of driving....That is LITERALLY SIXTY (64) FOUR CENTS PER DAY to in some cases 10 more rwhp....Buy one less soda. One less beer. One less pack of smokes a month...

How much do you REALLY love you cars?

I'll never understand it.

It seems like every other time I run it pings and surges or runs fine? This is odd

I always run 91.93, or 94 oct. I saw someone say 14* on 93 is max for sn95 is that the same even if you have a J4J1 cobra ecu?

I'm thinking the surging is Definatly dirty egr but pinging is still a ? Maybe clogged injectors?

A faulty egr can cause pinging as well. The exhaust gases actually stabilize the intake charge. HOWEVER, at wide open throttle, the EGR is disabled.

Unless the egr isn't fully disengaging at wot. It's weird. It's like of I fore it when it's cold and run it. I only get the ping in hard pulls and usually in second rarely in third but if I fire it after it's at temp it surges sometimes even sounds like it's got a wicked miss and pings in ever gear and with medium pulls
