Unless your state is oddball the law is about visible light. Here in Nebraska its like 250 ft or something. I tinted mine, and both my brothers cars have them. We have had(knock on wood) ZERO trouble with the police. All three vehicles are a tinted clear sprayed on the tails so light output is not an issue. If you are interested hit up a body shop and ask them to spray a tintable clear on there. Mixing black/clear isnt really the best way to do it but if you mix it up and spray its usually ok. The problem is some people have trouble with streaking, but hardly any. So, laws are usually light output, not tint.

Thanks for your input, I might ask a shop, but considering I don't currently have insurance I try to stay away from small things to get pulled over for, Spokane cops are worse than the Boston PD.

when I first purchased my 95, it came with that crap sprayed on the headlites, couldnt stand it..when Im tooling down the road 80 plus, by gawd I wish to see the road, so dropped that set an bought a single piece set off American Muscle, do admit the halo clear set i bought was a piece of crap..cheaply made an broke, then they tried to gank me on a replacement set til i annoyed them so much thwey jus gave in, but the ONLY way I wouldnt stick to clear lenses for the headlites is by adding which I have now, the 6000k or higher HID kits...thats Beautiful!!!!...and as for tinting the tails..jus slap in some LED bulbs that will stand out Strong..then as stated above, less ya just get caught being a total idiot;-) * which I do so well *, I wouldnt think you would have much trouble from anyone...

so far since Ive bought this car, an play ALOT in it..Ive been pulled over 9-10 times, 6 of the times the officer as well owned a Mustang, or had in the past, asked a cpl questions to the car, relived the memories, left me with a warning... hahah even whipped a pleasant lil do nut to tickle my g/f, which I didnt see the Seargent sitting RIGHT There in the dark , immediately pulled up on me, walked up an said " lemme guess...car problems " I smiled an said " no sir, as ya seen, its working JUSTTT FINE " , he chuckled, told me about his an said, Get Home!...well by gosh..YES SIR an kicked Rocks...

Merry Christmas an Happy New Year everyone!!!

First of all....... GO GET SOME INSURANCE !!!!
Now, here you go:
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.200
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.050
Those are for the required illumination distance for stop lamp and electronic turn signals front and rear. Yes, that is for Washington.

I'm still looking for anything that may hinder tinted headlights
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.020
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.030
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.040
Thats all I've found so far.

OH YEAH !!!!! Here is the one that requires you to have insurance too.

Almost fell asleep reading those laws. Good info, thank you.

As for insurance, I might consider getting it once I start driving the car.

lol yea...insurance for sure. If you aren't driving yet, then save your money for....INSURANCE lol. Even if your car is completely legal you could get stopped by a cop for something completely idiotic, and oops! No Insurance? Ticket, or if he's enough of a jerk...Jail.

Just pretend to be an illegal immigrant and drive around with no insurance. If you get pulled over just say no english and they will give you all kinds of free stuff and let you go.
