Went out for a run in whats left of the countryside, on a straight bit of tarmac, i booted it, and away it went, in fact it went well.
Second time i did this [about 40-50mph] the rev counter swung round and hit the rev limiter, just like clutch slip, driving normally it was no problem, i probably have'nt been driving it too hard till i had everything set up, is the converter shot ?
It seemed to happen about 2 out of 7 times, till i ran out of straight bits. :(

shorter gears in the rear of an AODE car become an isse. the only things you can really do is drop a shift kit in, new torque converter, and have someone electronically change your shift points.

your car's ECM still thinks it has stock gears, so it will shift at a pre-determined rpm, based on stock rate of acceleration, and other such things. You would have to drop your shift points a couple hundred rpm, to make up for the amount of time it now takes your car to climb through the gears

I can see what your saying, but the new rear axle is'nt in yet, a friend of mine suggested that i'm not using Mercon V, that dropping the old oil and trying that might help, it shifts fine through all the gears, only if you really give it some , it slips, but only very rarely?

Not just me then, seems like the converter isnt locking up under full load, might have to try Mercon V.

might want to wait for adder to chime in on that one. You shouldnt mix alot of trans fluids.

Mercon V is the Ford replacement for the old Mercon, i would'nt be mixing, it would be a full drain and refill..
Not sure wether to replace the 1-2 2-3 accumulators while i'm on the job.

Mine has been doing the same thing lately too! Its the torque converter! I've talked to Lentech about mine! The torque converter isn't working properly! I have a Lentech valve body 3 street eliminator and a built rear with 4.10's and my car only has 60K miles; she runs strong too! Lentech told me to purchase one of his 9 1/2 non-lock up converters and he said i should feel somemore power outta her!

I'm sorry to hear yours is acting funny as well, but relieved to hear its not so uncommon either, i just ordered Mercon V [which is FULLY synthetic and not cheap here], and the 1-2 accuumulator piston F7AZ-7F251-AA and the 2-3 accumulator piston F7AP-7H292-AA, evidently if your changing the fluid to the later spec its worth it.

Just to let you know, that if what your trying doesn't work, I have a edge racing torque converter installed in my 94 gt and it works great. They are custom built to your specs and are only around 500 shipped. This is not a bad price for a custom built torque converter. Hope the mercon V works, good luck.

Sounds good, just to add, i spoke to a helpful place : http://www.ford-aode.com/ , he seemed to think it would be in the forward clutch, which is less than good news. Originally when i got the car, 50k miles and just over 10 years old, the fluid had'nt been changed and it suffered from converter shudder, and as the AODE does'nt seem to be Fords best ever box, i might be facing a rebuild. :(
