so you have a misfire, traction control is broken (who needs that anyway) and you can't shift a car from 1-2nd without pausing? sounds like you need to take your car to a reputable Ford dealership and have them look it over because i get this vibe that you have no idea what your doing.. take it in before you break something expensive

Anyway lol you do have the clutch all the way down right? traction control is a female dog anyway lol but have you tried turning it off then spinning, then turning it back on and seeing if theres a difference?

I've tried many things. I can spin tires as much as I want with it on and with it off.

my traction control = my right foot

first thing I do in any traction control car is turn it off. Takes away from the driving experience and realistically does more harm than good IMO. hell I hate that I have ABS for that matter..

your shifter is toast. get a short throw.

Because I've had that told to me a million times here. It's just that with my circumstances and situations that it's not just that simple. Besides, my local "reputable ford dealership" tried to get me to pay them 8k to put a new engine in.

It has to do with the 2nd gear synchros. When I first got this car, the first thing I asked about was why I would grind second gear every time I'd run it above 3500RPM in first, and everyone I asked said they had the same problem (all 4V 5spd guys).

I have the same thing with my tranny. I have a t5 witha short shifter. I think there is nothing you can do to remedy it unless you go into the tranny. If i rev it out I have to slam the clutch to the floor and put it into second very firmly. I often get a little grind. That it my solution until i can afford a new tranny. I am going to try a new clutch cable/quadrant/adjuster and see what that does. Maybe pour some synchromax or synchromesh in and see what that nets me.
