Transmission from a newer car?

As far as I understand in my 96, the only transmission I can use is the 96-98 style to maintain use of the speedometer due to the gear. Is there anyway to use a newer trans, say 99-04, and make it so that the speedometer works? Thanks

As I remember, you'll need the '96-'98 output shaft and the '96-'98 tailshaft housing transferred to the newer T-45. Yes, this will require disassembly of both gearboxes as the output shaft comes out from the front. Not fun.

On manual transmission car's, the mechanism for a speedo gear remained until mid 00 when there was a minor switchup in Mustang drivetrain part's, like the switch in heads and flexplates at that time.

However, in either case, a Dallas Mustang extended range speedcal can be used to coordinate the two different signals, it could also concievably be used to swap a newer electronic odo dash into a SN.

On 96-98 car's, although they do have a gear, they also have a VSS that sends s signal up to the dash, so it's not really cable driven like say my 83 F150 is.

3.73 is the highest gear ratio tranny gear i've found. if you get gears higher than those, your speedo will be off without the DSC.
