I went with the D&D T-56 Magnum kit last winter and I'll never look back. I had a Astro t-5 rated at 400lbs and I cringed every pass down the drag strip that I'd blow it up on motor, I never sprayed my motor with that transmission, I waited until I bought my T56 magnum. D&D says that the Magnum is rated for 750lbs of torque. I dynoed 742 rwtq, or about 900 lbs of torque at the crank. I'm 150 lbs over the rating for this transmission and it's shifting down the track like butter. I also put about 8,000 street miles on my car last year. Never a hiccup once at the track or on the street. It's worth every penny. I currently run a Spec 3 clutch with my trans.

The only reason it will be ever come out of the car is if I decide to make it a drag car and put an auto in it.

Thanks for you input! It's going to help make a final decision when it gets warm. They say that the transmission needs to be indexed and lined up so you do not get those 3rd gear issues. I'm glad that people had success with it. How much did the kit run from ddperformance? I didn't really see a kit on their website, you probrably have to call and find out.

Is it really worth getting the 6 speed?!? I guess its all about perference. If I go with built 6 speed, it will probably be from promotion.

only time you have to index is running an old style sfi bellhousing. i'm sure it never hurts, but with an aluminum bell, it's just bolt in and go. i'm not too sure on price. i bought the trans, bellhousing, and aluminum driveshaft. i think i paid around 2400, but that was 5 years ago. and needing a 6 speed all comes down to your ultimate goals. are you going to run a blower or a turbo down the road? bottom line is gears. if you go with a turbo, then you'd be fine with a tko as you will have 3.27 gears and would never need 6th gear.

but if you're planning on a blower with 4.10's. then 6th could come in handy when cruising down the highway.

also, the magnum has a higher tq rating, and i've heard nothing but good things about it as far as shift smoothness, and that it feels rock solid. but i'm sure you're like me and don't have cash falling out of your pockets. i plan to snag up another tko for my current build and then add a magnum down the road if it ever breaks. which probably won't happen

Sell it to me J/K. Dude, the kit is so expensive. I cried on the inside when I saw the price. Its worth the pennies, but its like selling my kidney for it. Its almost 4 grand for the kit :( :(

I have 3.73's right now. And I'm either planning on TT it, or Kennebell. What do you think man? You guys are not making the decision easy hahahaha.

I think the TKO might be the best option for now, but anything is possible! Thanks for your advice 98rocket.

well, take a lesson i learned the hardway. pick your goal and end parts, then work towards them. changing your mind will make you have to re-buy parts and sell what you already have, losing money.

if you're not trying to build a 800hp setup, and hit the track with some big meats, then the tko will be just fine. they are also easy to pick up used and fairly cheap. then you could always send it to liberty for a 3rd gear faceplate setup.

also, from personal experience i would shy away from a kenne bell on a mod motor, unless you have c heads. a vortech will be less expensive and make just as much power.

if you choose turbo, if you don't mind me asking, why do you want a "twin turbo" setup? is it for packaging reasons or just to say you have twins? reason i ask is that it just makes more parts that are capable of failure. twice the oil feed and drain lines, 2 wastegates, more piping on the hotside and colside. and more expensive.

a properly sized single will take up less room, make the same power and spool up all the same. just be smart in your part selection and downpipe size and exhaust.

by all means, do whatever you want your car to be. but, do some reasearch and see what guys are successfully running out there and stick with it. if it works, its for a reason. check out theturboforums.com for all the turbo stuff you could learn, and other great tech. also check out modularfords.com for a lot of mod motor tech and blower setups.

NO way i'm putting a KB on "Non-PI heads". Whenever I get to building a motor, I want to keep it stock bore with a set of TFS heads. I was thinking of a ported setup but the displacement isn't big enough to utilize the extra airflow. And the reason why I said, TT because I like the HP kit and how stealthy it is hidden under the bumper. You are right though, twice as many things to go wrong. End goal is to have around 500-600rwhp hp but that even that might be to much because these cars are very light. Getting them into the 10's is not that hard compared to heavier stuff that is out there on the road. As of right now I'll be happy with a set of cams, heads, KB with a nice trans to handle the power. The more I think about the TKO600 is calling my name.

that sounds more like a fun driver. and for the hp kit, you'd have to find a used one as they went out of business. was coming for a long time. HORRIBLE customer service and many months delay on parts delivery. if it's a street cruiser and weekend warrior, then an intercooled kb setup with good heads would be fun.

just to put a bug in your ear. you could also consider doing a 3 valve swap. they're really easy if you're starting with a 2v car. your computer and wiring harness can run the motor. heads flow good stock. rods are week, but that's true with any stock bottom end.
