I was wondering if the SCT/X3 Tuner can be used to tune my car? I originally thought they were NOT able to be tuned with one of these??? If they are able to be used, how would I change tunes & make changes in my cars CPU? Does one just plug that chip in and THEN Plug the hand held into that to change tunes, set-ups, parameters.... Ect?
After reading another post earlier and seeing that on their (SCT) web site it does list 94-95 Mustangs, I'm a little confused.

Thanks in advance

The CPU cannot be tuned directly. You can get a tuning chip and a tune that piggybacks onto the factory ECU. Unless you are doing a HCI combo it's unlikely that you need a tune. You may need a tune-up though. Plugs, filters, wires, rotor, cap and a cleaned MAF.

Ok, I gotcha Toyman, Thanks! Yes Sir, I have just done the FULL tune up you mentioned. The Funny thing is the very thing(s) that made the biggest difference and "seemed' to take care of ALL my Running issue's (been a couple weeks now :undecided: ) was cleaning the MAF & IAT sensors...... lol Go Figure?

for some reasom the modern hi flow air filters like K/N (which use oil to trap the dirt) like to deposit that oil on the MAF and IAC.
It doesn't happen to all cars but it seems to happen to Mustangs a lot.

For a 95 your only real options for tuning are either a SCT 4 bank eliminator from AM that includes BAMA tunes - you tell them what you got and they ship it to you with tunes on it (it goes on the J3 port on your ECU). When you change something and want new tunes, you have to ship it back to them. Runs about $260.

The other option is a Quarterhorse (QH) (lol like your name) from Moates.net. It also goes on the J3 port but you can get software that allows you to tune whatever/however much you want. The software is called Binary Editor (BE) and EEC Analyzer. Google for them, they will be at the top. The QH is about $250 - however, there is more money that must be spent on the software, as it's not free. For personal use, I want to say it was like $80 or so for BE and maybe $130 for both BE and EEC Analyzer. But you can use that software ONLY on one computer - so make sure it's the computer you want to tune your car with, like a laptop or something. You can pay a lot more (around ~$200) for a dongle that you can then use on any computer to tune with.

SCT is the easiest to deal with if you don't want to learn how to tune and don't mind waiting a bit for tunes to show up. BAMA does good work. It's also the cheapest. QH is the most powerful, as it gives you full and complete control of your computer (and the ability to royally eff your car) - support is good but expect to do A LOT of reading and research before attempting to tune. It's not a read-the-directions-for-5-minutes-and-then-you're-tuning-like-a-pro type thing. It's a pretty steep learning curve.
