With a decent setup using quality parts with a good tune it will be reliable. Just dont get greedy and try to squeeze every last bit of power outta it and itll be fine. Its really mostly in the tune. If you are serious about it go find a reputable tuner and tell him your plans and go from there. If he is any kind of tuner he will be willing to tell you what can and cant be done. We have quite a few turbo dangos running around here in Cincy. Guys daily driving them and then taking them to the track on the weekends and beating the snot outta em. So yes, they can be reliable just like anything else, just dont half ass anything or expect a stock longblock to set records. Wish you were closer to me. Id hook you up with a badass tuner that has tuned more turbo mustangs than I can even think of.

Rich you couldn't have summed it up any better than that. That being said I do realize the over excessive amount of installation work and overall maintenance that has to be done on turbo vs s/c. I've done a little bit of my homework so I'm well prepared for that part of it.

It will be daily'd in the spring(provided it's out)/summer/fall but I'll probably end up driving my Jeep too.

I definitely plan on wrapping things to try and keep them cool, and also plan on getting a GT scoop for my hood and making it functional (cut out under the scoop). Those 2 things alone should help reduce the amount of heat.

And honestly I don't plan on getting carried away with it yet. I have no grudge matches this summer so whoever I beat I beat, whoever beats me beats me. I'm not worried about that at all. If someone beats me it's because they built their car better. I'll get there eventually. I just want to have a fun car that makes good power on a turbo. Once I get the money for a built motor then it will be a different story, but until then I plan to just fly under the radar around here for the most part. We'll see what happens, thanks for the input guys

for the love of everything holy if people turn a legitimate tech thread into a road-rage fest (like the 3 we had in the last 2 days wasnt enough) i'm going to lose it.

Killer, what are the price differences on these kits? I'm osrry to hear the KB fell through :( right after you sold the eaton too, of course. lOL.

I still have the Eaton MC, I might save it for another project down the road, unless someone want's to buy it! But yeah man I was so stoked for the KB then BAM back to square 1 again lol... Like it was the day before we were supposed to pick it up and the yard selling the car was like no were not selling the whole car, and no you can't buy the "intake" as they called the KB. I was like wow really... Go figure lol. But honestly that kind completely killed my motivation to s/c the car at all. I know it really doesn't make any sense but thats how it worked for me.

The On3 is about $2100 out the door plus I'll need their K member/coilover kit which is an additional $600 <--- This is the route I plan on taking. Like I said down the road if I get a nice built motor I'll replace the turbo, bov, and wastegate to a better setup (like a GT35R or GT37R).

The Hellion is the only other kit I know of and it's around $5500 IIRC. I just can't foot that kind of bill right now. Unless someone knows of another turbo kit that's affordable, On3 will be the route I'll take

The two real factors to be considered when looking at what type of power adder should be these:
1 - Your budget.
2 - Your driving style/use for the car.

Despite what anyone else likes, your needs might not be met with what they would do.

I had a completely built l&m engine, used the same components as an mmr 900.

When you build a 550-600 rwhp street car, guess what, shit can break very easily.

Car ran great for months then all the sudden it was missing, even on low boost/ timing. The car DID make 500+ rwhp on the dyno on 13 psi after I sold it and the new owner put some race gas in it.. it was actually a bad tank of gas with low octane that caused the issues.

I can only assume that it was a combination of running 15-16 psi, too aggressive with the timing, and probably had something to do with the gas in the tank at that point as it ran like a champion even at 22 psi when I had some race fuel mixed in with it.

As far as lag, there will be some initially off the line but on the street it doesn't really matter since it helps to hook u anyway.

Lag was non existent once I was moving.

The turbo setup is more complicated. More shit to go wrong. Have to relocate the oil setup. Lots of heat everywhere. Piping can crack. Leaks can form over time. Your car won't sound good anymore.
Have to run poopy tubular setup with on3.
Have to be lifted in the front for clearance now. Can't take turns without turbo piping hitting a arms unless you lift your car like a monster truck.

Turbos are awesome power adders...but would I do it again on a street driven mustang 4.6? Probably not.

Id be content with the power from a blower.

Just my 02c. Doesn't mean you won't love it or its not for you.

Its not cheap either. All said and done that on3 setup will probably cost you closer to 4k tuned, fuel, gaskets, etc

Speaking of, don't use any on3 gaskets and you might as well have new v bands welded on before you even attempt to put it on the car. Say good bye to another 500 dollars.

Sn95s have and always will be turds in my mind. That opinion never changed during or after ownership. The Turbo setup was awesome when it ran. It's still awesome when its running...the only thing not awesome is all the potential issues.

I'll get some real responses soon, as I'm at work now, but I have welding ability, that saves money, and yes 4k isn't cheap but I can do it little by little rather than all at once. I can't save it for all at once. Little by little is the way to go for me. Thanks for the input again guys. And like I said I'll get a drawn out response as soon as I can

Dick haha that's not it at all you smartass lol I just want to go turbo. Got nothing to do with ignoring everyone else. I just wanted some pros cons. If I wanted to be like everyone else I'd take my wing off, slam my car on its face, and put a vortech on it lmao no offense but it's not my thing.

You guys will see. I'll do shit the right way and not punish the living fukk out of it. It's completely possible to do it and I will prove it. O how I love it every time I try to do something that not everyone else does I get flamed for it. Good shit. But I've gathered the info I needed. I'm going turbo
