Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have this question posted on a couple other forums but I'm just trying to gather as many opinions as possible. Any ideas would be apprieciated.

1. I got a CEL so I pulled the codes. KOEO I get 173 (o2 sensor indates passenger bank rich). What can cause this besides a bad o2 sensor?

2. I've had a intermittant ABS light. Everytime I try to pull the codes from the anti-lock port I get 12 (system ok). Anyone got any ideas about that one?

The o2 sensor code really does sound like a bad O2 sensor to me. I really don't know anything else that would cause just ONE bank to go lean. I reccomend though replacing them in sets.

As for the ABS code...honestly man, I don't know what to tell ya. I would start by checking all the abs sensors and make sure they are clean. They can get a brake dust build up on them. That might be causing some erratic code problems.

I agree with cleaning the ABS sensors.

The rich bank could be from a fuel injector on that side that is fouled somehow or otherwise shooting too much fuel. You might want to do a resistance check on those injectors for a start.

the injectors are brand new (this month) and came with a flow sheet in the box....

where are the ABS sensors? are they behind the disks? what do they look like? I've probably seen them before and just didn't realize it. And what should I clean them with?

Just because the injectors are new doesn't mean there good. I've seen a lot of parts, right out the box not work the way they should. I think that if you really want to fix the problem it would be worth looking into the injectors. It's also possible that you could have a fuel leak at one of the injectors causing air to get in the lines, you may want to double check that whole side of the fuel system.

when you look behind the discs you'll see the exciter rings...they look like gears with nothing on them. there is a little magnetic rod that rides right next to them. if you see a bunch of dust and metal shavings all over the lil rod, hit it with some brake cleaner and a brush. repeat for each wheel...

thanks i'll pull the wheels and clean those out and see what happens

I did a cylinder balance test and piston 2 failed so I'm pretty sure what ever is happening it is happening there. I looked at the injector and it looked fine but i'll pull the rail and see if i can find anything else.

By cylinder balance test do you mean compression test? If so what was the percentage of difference in cylinder 2?

no..a cylinder balance test is a self test done by the EEC. It shuts fuel and spark off to each of the cylinders one at a time and measures the RPM difference to see if there are any signifficant differences. It then tells you which(if any) pistons fail (piston 2 in my case). I will do a compression test though after the results of this test.

If the compression test indicates something funny you may want to get a leakdown test too.

BTW, does the car make coffee for you too while it performs this balance test?? :nonono: Geesshh. What are cars coming to? Convenient, but I wasn't expecting it. I am still hung up on the "old" cars, and I mean old.

haha i wish cuz it does take about 5 min for this to happen. Yeah I'm going to do the compression/leakdown tests this weekend and I'll report back on what I find

check the ABS line on the front wheels it should be bolted or clipped to the strut bolt behind the brakes (if I remember correctly).
If its just dangling there, the ABS light will come on and off. It would be off when the car started until i hit a bump.
It happened to me after the struts were replaced on my car.
the mechanic was not paying attention.
