Ok, so as i'm sure a good amount of you have DECENT E-Brakes.. I'm wondering how to get mine to work good. I've always thought that doing E-Brake parks, slides etc. would be fun. I probably won't ever do one, but if I ever do learn to do that or if I ever want to park on a steep hill :violent1: i'd like my E-Brake to actually work. Right now it will hold the car on a small incline, but that's about it. You can be going 70, 50, 30, 10 or whatever and it just feels like the air conditioner kicking on. The handle has plenty of resistance, but it doesn't really do anything. If anyone has any information i'd greatly appreciate it. I read through the old threads but no one's had an answer yet. Oh, and sorry about the huge paragraph.

Mine isn't either. The Haynes manual says that its self adjusting but I think mine is self adjusted out lol. If I have the brakes on and pull fast it does nothing, slowly and it at least grips.

I wish it was like my dads, just pull the cable longer and tighten, done.

Yeah, I can leave mine all the way up and take off from standing still.. you barely notice it's on.

Not sure on mustangs, but I know that with other self adjusting brakes if you get going in reverse to a good speed and hit the brakes (not e-brake) it will cause the adjusters to move. Try doing this in a parking lot where you can get up a fair amount of speed, and do it 3-4 times. See if that helps.

The way (to my knowledge) to adjust the rear e-brake is, while standing still, to pull and release the e-brake multiple times... If
the tension on the e-brake does not increase, then more than likely you have one or more e-brake cables that are stretched..
For the age of these cars, and all the use (and potential abuse) that the braking system takes, it's a wonder that your e-brake
holds at all.. My 95gt with 115K, which I'm pretty sure the previous owner flogged to hell, it's ebrake does the same thing... Holds on
flat ground, to mild incline, but not on a moderate grade.. My 94gt with 165K on the other hand, 2 owners prior, it's ebrake holds
great, without having to yank it all the way up.

Hmm, I think i've tried that before... Do you happen to now how hard it would be to replace the E-brake cables?

I think there's a free recall on this from Ford on SN95's. Call your dealer and ask them to run your VIN for open TSB's. You can find a source to run it online as well.

Yes, there was a recall for that very problem. I doubt you can still get it fixed for free though.
