Hey everyone, ever since I've developed my rod knock, I've put my car on the back burner. But now I've got the urge to get it fixed up nice. Plans for the car on about a 100 shot, maybe 150 shot is to make around 450-475 rwhp. I'll def take a little less, as it's only a number, hopefully my driving can make up for it in the 1/4. I have a Edelbrock Performer II intake now which I plan to keep. I want to use the block that's in my car since it's the original block. Do you think the factory rods will withstand 450? If not then what would be a decent rod that would work well. Also, how about pistons? Dished? Flattop? What would be the best for my situation? Remember, I do not plan on going past 500 at all, so I have no need for a rotating asssembly to with hold 1000+ hp. ha. Any nice set of rings that I should be on the lookout for? Would I be able to keep my stock 24# injectors or should I bump them up? I might end up with a set of Edelbrock heads, not too sure yet.

I've got my lowering springs on the way, so no more 4WD. It may knock, but at least it'll look good while sitting there! ha!

Thanks in advance!

How do you know it's rod knock?

Your block will go before your stock crank and rods. I would do a stock crank, rods, and a good forged piston and do a 306 as you mentioned. I would do something around a 10:1 final compression with the heads. As far as flat top vs dished, if you have no plans for boost I would do a flat top piston.

It knocks when you first start it up, then quits. Then after it warms up, it kocks while on the throttle. But when off the throttle my factory oil pressure gauge drops to almost 0. I've spun a bearing of some sort, but not exactly sure which. So you think the stock rods will hold 450 whp? I'm not sure I'll be able to do the heads at the same time as the 306, but will be done shortly after if everything goes as planned.

I've been thinking about this today. Is it really worth it to just go to a 306? After all the machine work, with the crank turned, block cleaned, & bored, I'd be in the neighborhood of $500 from a reputable local machine shop. Do you think it'd be better just to keep it a 302 and get the block cleaned, honed, & get the crank turned?

depends on the cylinder walls. if they have a bad groove you dont really have a choice.
? is..... is it worth going to a 306 when you could go 347!!!

It would be worth it, however I do not have the money to spend on a stroker kit. lol Are the heads on my '94 Cobra "GT-40's?"

if you have zero oil pressure then you better budget a decent amount of money. you won't know the extent of the damage until it is apart

Your heads are gt40s. You'll at least need to put some ARP bolts on your rods to make them last. 30lb injectors would be best.
