Teh END

Fixed.

Have you done a fuel pressure test? Tried unplugging the MAF to see if the car will run closed loop? What's the TPS voltage at now?

im not sure what the TPS voltage is at. i just swapped in a new one hoping that would help..

i forget how to test the voltage on the TPS though. I just get the multi meter and put it on gnd and +.. then I rotate the throttle slowly all the way from idle to WOT and then back down and look for erratic voltage readings correct?

I have not done a fuel pressure test since it started doing this but i do have a fuel pressure gauge i bought about a month ago when I tested it.

and I have also not tried unplugging the MAF. my MAF is in the fenderwell and I didn't have time to jack up the car and get to it because I had to work at 5. I dont understand the whole closed loop open loop thing on cars. what does unplugging the MAF tell you? if the MAF itself is bad?

and thanks for the help thus far everyone. ive been without my car for less than 24 hours and i already feel it. i hate being away from my car. my day in terms of happiness is cut in half from the beginning when i know i can't jump in my car and go for a cruise.

it does suck. Just go thru a list of things. check ur maf, the check ur coils and wires and plugs and then check fuel pressure, make sure everything is plugged in right ( well not everything but everything reasonable.)

I was thinking maybe one of the injectors is vapor locked or something?

quit whining and go fix your car. its probably something as simple as bad gas or the mass air. and dont replace any more parts without a good diagnosis either cause it will make you more mad and purchasing parts to fix a problem that doesnt help is gay. do you have a repair manual or anything for your car? if not, then get one. you cant rely on your dad forever and having him fix everything for you isnt gonna teach you to fix your own problems. you said you have a fuel pressure gauge, start by checking your fuel pressure. if you want to check your gas, the easiest way is to disconnect the pressure side of your fuel lines, pull the fuel pump relay out and hot wire it. you may need a wiring diagram for that. thats how we used to sample gas at the shops ive worked at. if the gas is bad, get some fuel stabilzer or fuel dryer and see what that does. seafoam in the gas tank wouldnt hurt either. if both of those check out, check the mass air. unplug it and see what the car does. under normal circumstances the car shouldnt run at all or if it does it will barely run. if that checks out, then maybe check your coil packs. if you had the manual it would seriously help you out faster than any of us can. i would maybe check the resistance in them. again without seeing your car run in person im just throwing ideas out there for you.

Trey, doesn't your car have really high miles on it? I know you've replaced the TPS recently, any other sensors replaced? And have you ever changed your fuel filter?

It's not bad gas, or a bad MAF, or anything Seafoam will fix, unfortunately. Don't waste your time and money on a dream that it will be an easy, no effort fix.

Start checking your wires, make sure none of them have worn through anywhere. Datalog and make sure the CTS and MAP sensors are putting out correct readings, in addition to the fuel pressure.

Patience, you have all the tools you need, and more, so we'll be able to get it figured out today, no problem :thumb"

ok thanks for all this help...

and im not necessarily whining, i just dont like to be apart from my car. and i do have a chiltons manual and shop manual but the shop manual is useless because when it comes to diagnosing sensors and fuel and stuff, it tells me to refer to another shop manual which i dont have.

i the only thing i have replaced so far is the TPS. i had a brand new TPS on my car but my tuner said he thinks its bad so i went to autozone, switched TPS's for free because i just bought a new one less than a month ago. I also switched the IAC valve from my other cobra motor to see if that was the problem. both are not. so today, if i have time, i will do a fuel pressure test and check the MAF. i get off at four and have to go out to eat with my girlfriend and her dad so i may not get to my car today. if not today, i will definitely have all day tomorrow because i dont work.

i have changed the fuel filter once but it was about 6-12 months ago (i honestly cant remember, i know that is a big time span though).. and i haven't replaced any sensors besides the TPS. On my TPS wires, the negative and positive have been spliced open a bit but covered thoroughly in elec. tape. i need to find my heatsink and cover it better though.

and im capable of doing things on my own, i just dont know the correct way of checking certain things because my dad is normally there to walk me along, thus this i why im trying to get help from you guys. thanks for the help btw. i appreciate it. :thumb:

also, for you guys that know how to datalog and what all the numbers mean, when i do TP ABSOLUTE (all caps) it only reads 120, even at WOT. my tuner said it should go up to like 900 under WOT but it doesnt. The lower cased tp absolute goes up to like 900 though. i dont really know the differences between the upper and lower case (short term vs. long term?).. i dont konw anything about datalogging yet so. i can datalog information for you guys if you just tell me what to log.

Thanks everyone for the help and information. i need my car back on the road! :thumb:

So all your other sensors are OE stuck in there in Dearborn? I'm just trying to eliminate possible causes for this. My car somehow frayed a wire apart to the MAP sensor once, ran like poop, just like you are describing, couldn't keep it idling for anything.

Your TPS counts should go alot higher than 120, but there are other issues that can cause it.

if it was something electrical usually youd get a CEL. my problems with mechanical issues usually had p1xxx codes and usually stuff obvious. i say jump in that engine bay and poke around.
