Weight Reduction List

I was bored at work today so I thought of some weight reductiong, that everyone can do, to lighten up our boats. Most of these items are free or fairly cheap. Please feel free to add any items or info that I missed. Note Some of these items are on the extreme side of reducing weight, but I listed the majority of the Items I could think of. I will try to get some how-to off the internet, and make some myself when I start shaving pounds on my stang.


Weight Reduction
-Remove Spare tire & Jack
-Racing Seats
-Remove Air Conditioning
-Rear Seat Delete
-Sound Deadining(sp?) In trunk and under rear seat and in Interior panels
-Trunk Panels
-There is a ballast weight bolted to the inner right fender used to dampen cowl shake. (Verts Only)
-Black Block around the Driveshaft (a.k.a the "Dogbone")
-Strut tower brace
-Stock mid-pipes and Headers weigh a ton
-Smog System
-Aluminum Heads
-Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber Hoods
-Remove Spoilers
-Carbon Fiber Trunk
-New K-member
-A-Arms
-Rear Control Arms
-Get a Gym Membership
-Aluminum Driveshaft

Track Weight Reduction
-Remove Sterio Equipment
-Put Spare tires on Front for skinnies, Drag Racing rims (Dont use the spare tires you could have a blowout. Just use Rims)
-Take out passenger Seat

Weight Transfer
-Remove Front Swaybar
-Relocate Battery

can't the dogbone only be removed when you get an Aluminum driveshaft?



and it should be tubular K-member and tubular A-arms, not just "new kmember"

No, you can yank it anytime you want to. You might find a little bit more drive line vibe but it isn't anything that will hurt anything b/c it was there before, you just didn't notice it. A loud exhaust will shake you up more than yanking this thing. It was dead weight to keep the masses happy with the way the cars rode and drove. If you're on here to find out how to make your car more comfortable, A) you're on the wrong site and B) you shouldn't have bought a mustang....

Just be care full of removing the dogbone with stock control arms and such. If you look care fully the bracket that holds the dogbone on the top side interacts with the pinon snubber. This may cause wheel hop if you still that stock suspension items.

then you may want to edit your list there...

for one of the weight reduction mods you have "fiberglass or carbon fiber hood"

So take off the fiberglass and replace with another fiberglass?

Here are a couple more:

Aluminum underdrive pulleys
The black braces behind the rear tires (Inside the fenders)
Foglights and mounting braces
Aluminum flywheel
If you remove the smog pump/egr - there are a couple of solenoid valves in side the passengers fender that can go
If you remove the a/c - pull the dash and remove the evaporator core
Cruise Control "Controller" inside drivers side fender
ABS

At the track:
Windshield wipers
Radio antenna
Windshield wiper fluid

I'm sure we can come up with more . . .

Don't forget the easy one:

For all you SN95 convertible guys, there is a ballast weight bolted to the inner right fender used to dampen cowl shake. It literally says "Caution 25 lbs" on it. Watch out and don't almost drop it on your head when you remove it. It REALLY weighs 25 pounds!
