weird sound under hood..?

When I get under the car and rev it up almost everything sounds good except there is a somewhat loud whining or zoooooooming sound close to the alternator... Could it be a spun bearing or something? I'm not too sure. BUt the car runs good..

Mine did the same thing. Every time you would get on it. It was wore out distributer bushings on mine. O0

ok I'll check it out more. Im not sure I noticed it before,, But you cant hear it from inside the car, Just when hood is popped and your stnding there..

it could be one of the 3 possible solutions already mentioned. the bearing in your alternator or smog could be causing the whining.
i would describe it most of the time as a noise resembling a supercharger, or slightly lower in pitch. again not all the time, but
most of the times i have heard bad acces. bearings. one way to check is to take your belt off, and start your car and listen for
the noise. if it is still there then it could be the dist. bushings such as silvergtstang94 was talking about, harmonic balancer is a
possibility, or possibly something inside the motor. if the noise isn't there, then one of your acces. is the culprit. O0

yea my friend mentioned to take the belt off too, So im thinking ill try that.. Im leaning towards the alt since it sounds like its coming form that and I just got the car smogged so I think all that is good. Thanks for the solutions!

Its not your throttle body whislting is it? Cause I know that my two buddies and I who dont have stock throttle bodies almost sound like damn turbos sometimes. Probably not is just wondeing because it is NEAR the TB.

naw cant really hear the TB unles im driving it really.. and thi si only hear it when under the hood. It doesnt have that whistle sound, just a loud whining
