When I first got my Stang, it had the Power Tower. Hated the way it wouldn't easily go into Fifth, so I bought a Tri-Ax handle for it. I figured, longer lever = more leverage = less hassle going into Fifth.

Oops LOL I was a little off...

And after I switched the Tri-Ax to the other (my side) side of the shifter, it kept knocking the shifter bezel loose every time I shifted into Second. (It had one of those Bullitt trims with the fake allen screws) On top of that, Second is a little noisy on my car, and the sound would reverb off the shifter hitting the bezel!

So, I put the Pro 5.0 handle back on along with CobraBob's shifter gaskets. (Still have to put the one for the baseplate on I just didn't want to take it all apart tonight) Also took off the aluminum-look trim ring on the bezel (turns out it's a Ford part, with a Ford part # on the back) and cleaned it up. Slapped it all back together and took it out...

It's a bit of a reach into 1st, 3rd, and 5th but not enough that it bothers me... and the "hefty" Pro 5.0 handle seems to have made a ton of difference. (Hold a Tri-Ax handle in one hand and the Pro 5.0 in the other- the Tri-Ax weighs nothing in comparison). There's a lot more precision all of a sudden, and I didn't grind into Fifth. Plus, Second is silent in comparison to before- still a little noise but it's like 95% better than it was.

(I also did a fluid change a couple weeks back- Castrol Dexron III)

We'll see how this 'box does in the cold weather next week... that'll be the true test!

You should try out the MGW shifter handle. It allows you to keep the pro 5.0 bottom half and have the MGW top half. It also lets you have complete control over the position of the handle.

Hell no....That little handle is adjustable but it is held in place by 2 little pissy screws that squeeze the handle so it doesn't move. After a month or so worth of hard shifts those screws grinded the metal off the handle and it came loose. I threw it away... The best combo is a Pro50 base with a Tri-ax handle and its been that way for years.

Eh, I'm really happy with my orange handle MGW... And it's good enough to convert a sn-cobra and a termi...

i have no problem with just the pro 5.0 by itself. :dunno:

I agree... some people just spend way too much on little crap like that.

I wouldn't call trying to get optimal shifter positioning wasting time. I'm 6'5" and even I had to come out of my seat (reach) to bang 3rd gear with the stock pro 5.0 handle. I switch to a steeda tri-ax HANDLE and loved it. Right now I'm messing with a cut welded and re angled stocker.

i have the whole steeda tri-ax on my tko, and i think it's pretty much perfect. i have driven stangs with pro 5.0 shifters
and it feels like you're driving with a stock shifter. steeda tri-ax FTW!.

Read up on that MGW unit. Pretty nifty. I'm not constantly aggressive with my car so the wear might not be an issue for me...

Still enjoying the all Pro-5.0 setup, Fifth and Reverse seem to be a little easier to engage. I discovered that when I shift from 4th to 5th if I push the lever all the way over, hold it there, and wait a second or two before completing the shift, it's not as likely to grind- except in the morning when the box is cold- but that really can't be helped. Damn T45 lol...

I know what you mean and in your case its definetly justified. But most people aren't trying to go as fast as they can every time they go racing (IF they even race) but they just keep buying shifters, handles, knobs, mufflers, etc. Thats my point... :thumb:

I hear ya. I've got kirkey prostreets in my car too though so its not like I can "adjust" the seat. I like to be able to punch the shifter basically to 3rd gear using just my arm and have enough reach to grab the front of the shifter to go for fourth. If I'm in someone else's car, I adjust the seat....mine, I get my seat comfortable and bring the shifter to ME.
