the other night i was driving and started to smell burnt oil.. so sure enough i was leaking so i got it home, luckally i wasn't too far away from my place.

the next morning i took some pictures

the camera angle was hard but if you look at the last picture you can see that the oil filter is against the K and it had actually shaved the top corner off of the filter. and had progessiveally started leaking

so my solution assuming that my motor mounts are snapped

was these solid motor mounts from Arts..

Bummer! But it's a good thing that you caught it close to home before something worse than the smell of burning oil happened.

Hey, just some advice about oil filters... Check out "BobistheOilGuy.com" and read his oil filter evaluation. If you like your engine, it is worth reading the article!

Don't forget to take lots of pics during the motor mount removal/installation to go along with the tech article you are going to write for us :hammer: (Thank you very much, btw).

Motor mounts would be time consuming to do unless you drop the K member out of the way.

You can snake them in there by just jack the motor up. He really doesn't have an option anyway, lol.

Solid Motor Mounts = NO NO NO on your car. They are only for High horsepower cars and will piss you off driving everyday.

Order some Poly Motor Mounts.... they should do the trick.

I had this same problem a few months ago. My Motor mounts were shot and i was busting oil filters.

http://www.sn95forums.com/forum/index.php?topic=20315.0

Good news is your can still drive you car..... Motorcraft makes a filter with the part number FL-757. this is a oil Filter for a early 80's Honda Accord/Prelude 1.6 liter. The Filter is 1 inch shorter than the FL-820s and has the same diameter and threading. The Purolator part number is "L10291"

This filter gave me enough clearance to drive my car for a few weeks before i got time to change my motor mounts because i had to get to school. You can see in the picks where my oil filter was hitting the k-member.... but its clears the K-member with the Honda Filter. The fix literally saved my ass :coolsmiley:

why are solid motor mounts going to piss me off?

Because Handz said so, pay attention. :hammer:

You'll feel more vibration, I say, as long as you keep the trans mount urethane or rubber, go for it. It may also back some bolts out and crap, but big whoopdy do.

well i'm going to return the motor mounts and find a nice set of polys or something, i did go with greg's idea of putting a different oil filter on there, i couldn't find the one that he used exacally.. but i did get the filter off a 1983 1.8L accord.. its a fram PH3531. but it fits on and seals perfectally. not leaking a drop of oil yet clearing the K completely. its about a inch and a half shorter, and will only be on there temporally until i can get new motor mounts on.. man ordering the cobra t-45 on friday too. geeze this is going to be a eventful month..

greg wanted me to post pictures proving it but my picture host isn't working at the moment, will post pics as soon as i can.

Yes, moly motor mounts are the way to go for sure.
Don't get solid motor mounts or transmission mounts save yourself the misery lol.
I notested that you have a Fram oil filter those are the worst oil filters on the market I
wouldn't put one on my lawnmower.
I have seen the Fram cannisters burst and the oil filter gaskets leak don't buy a Fram
oil filter they are crap. The Motorcraft oil filters are the best for your mustang!

Good luck on the motor mount reinstallation, i replaced my transmission mount this week it was broken in 3 peices, it realigned my motor, moved it about an inch to the left. I had no idea it was running that way, its probably been broken since i bought the car in february.

Definitely steam clean and clean up the oily mess under your car!
Don't forget to make sure your oil level is where it should be when
you install your new oil filter. :thumb:
