What did I break? Shifter or tranny?

Question for you all...I was out in the 94 GT today just driving easy & enjoying it, stopped at a red light & popped the Steeda TriAx into neutral to rest my clutch leg. When I went to go into first gear the TriAx got totally loose & floppy! No connection to the tranny it felt like & no spring tension on the shifter handle. I haven't had time to go pull it off yet & check it out, for sure tomorrow, but is there anything in the T5 tranny that could cause this? I finally got it to go into second I think & drove home in one gear only. The shifter handle is way cocked over & up tight to the dash! Clutch works fine no noise or anything from the tranny area so I am fairly sure it is shifter related. It is jammed in the one gear & I don't want to apply too much pressure til I look tomorrow.

Any ideas? I never heard of a TriAx breaking before have any of you? Sure hope that's it as it is way cheaper to fix! Thanks all.

the 4 bolts connecting it to the tranny could have come loose

Check to ensure the shifter handle is still secured by the two bolts. Then check to ensure the 4 bolts holding the shifter plate to the transmission are all tight. Then remove the bolts and check to ensure the shifter ball has not snapped. This is somewhat common with Tri-ax shifters.

If that is the case, buy a new shifter and ensure the stops are adjusted correctly. :)

Nope, not me. :) That was a friend of mine. I use B&M Ripper Shifters exclusively. :)

Paul! You are a genius! LOL...I pulled the boot off & found the shifter handle bolt had backed out & the remaining one was loose...all fixed & loctited now. Great pics my friend, if I ever break that pivot ball thingy think I'll try the MGW one next. Man what a relief! Nice & simple.

My Tri-Ax has been good to me so far. A little notchy ,but fun overall. I have heard first hand stories of people breaking their Tri-Ax. If the stops aren't adjusted right ,and you slam it hard enough and often enough,I guess it could happen. They are damn light.

That's what I figured. Sometimes the bolts will vibrate loose and suddenly the old one becomes a pivot, not a bolt. Makes shifting a wee bit difficult.

Not that it's ever happened to me or anything...really. ???

Glad you got it fixed, and glad it wasn't the shifter ball. I accept paypal and cashier's check. LOL :bunny3:

Paul.
