what gear should i get

my car is a 98 gt auto i have shorty headers,70mmtb,plenum,udp,cai soon to install pi intake/cam i have 4:10s not installed but most of my friends tell me to get 3:73s instead?so which ones are better for my car and whats the different

Basically the 4.10's are better for the dragstrip. They are not as good of a highway gear because the rpm's are higher, thus reducing gas mileage. 3.73's are just about the perfect balance for a street car that makes visits to the dragstrip. If you're willing to sacrifice some money for gas in return for power, get the 4.10's.

i would say 4.10's becuase your auto. it will help out more than the 73's

It depends..I have 3.73s....but I also drive my car a lot...like 50 miles a day.

Its personal preferance really...youll be at like 2800 rpms at 70...with 3.73s im at 2500 at 70.

Honestly you could just save the 500 dollars and spend it on a pi swap..it will give you more power, make your car faster than the gears would have, plus you can always do the gears later if you want more.

I would have never bought gears and saved up for a full pi swap if I could do it over.

They were fine when I first had them put in, you get that new mod feeling.. Now that I've had them for some time... They just feel like they leave soo much left on the table..

i think unless you have a roots/twin screw you should do 4.10s

what kinda RPM do you turn with the 73's? like at 80ish. and when do you top out of 4th? like what speed?

4.10's 4.10's 4.10's, OR a PI motor with a KB and 3.27's.

Well... THen 3.73's might be more apporpriate, you'll blow through first quick on the gas.

4th is probably 115ish IIRC, but I haven't taken it that high in awhile.. and at 80 i know it's under 3k, probably 2.6k... I don't know, I don't really concern myself with it anymore..
If anyone else knows exact, feel free to correct me..

If you like doing all that highway driving, then you should probably stick with them or go 4.10's..

But for me personally, I don't like them any longer.. But I don't feel like spending the $500 for installing a new gear..

thats what i was thinking, 4.10's are more of an all motor gear(IMO)
