What kind of vacume should I have at idle?

My vacume/boost gauge is only reading like 3-4hg (or whatever its measurement is) at idle. It reads boost just fine. What's the deal? I've got it T'd into the red vacume hose at the throttle body. I've seen cars with 15-20 at idle. Does anyone know why mines so low? Is it my cams or does that have any effect?

mine is 16 at idle, might see if you can put the connection in the upper intake, more away from the throtte body, see if that shows, big cams shouldnt have it that low.

Mine used to be at 5 in. of vac at idle. Turns out there was a kink in the plastic tubing when I pushed the meter in the pod. When I fixed the kink, it went up to 17/18.

EDIT: I have comp stage II cams so that's not the issue.
