What temps do you run?

The 1st one is for the cooling. It catches air and throws it up through the large holes in the front bumper at speed.

I've never seen the 2nd one. Didn't even know it existed. It may be for air noise or aerodynamics.

My guess is the second one creates an area of reduced or perhaps negative pressure (vacuum) which draws the air post rad to the bottom and away from the engine.

Good pics. I didn't know about the second one either. The aluminum one I made attaches to the radiator frame and hangs down equal to the lowest point in my exhaust system. I cools the engine greatly and ia a "warning system" for hitting the headers or cats hanging down.

It's a stock Ford part. Some time ago someone mentioned the second one and as mine was missing I checked the local Ford parts department to see if it was listed. It was still available so I ordered one. There's a channel it slides onto on the rad support. IIRC I added some adhesive to make it more secure.

I know it's late in the game for this guy but I just finished putting mine back together with my 180* and i run about 195-200 when i'm sitting in traffic, cruising otday was about 185 at 85* outside. With my 160*, my car never went over 170-180*

i took off my air deflectors after my accident for a cleaner look (nothing hanging/dragging), and havent noticed more than a 5-10 degree difference. i thought i read somewhere that oil provides optimal lubrication at temperatures of about 200-220ish.

well i have a 160 degree t stat so maybe thats why?

You should not run a 160. It keeps the car in constant open loop b/c it is always trying to reach that 160* temp which it never will.

Finally drove mine for the first time in about a year and a half and I was right from my previous post. I run between 180-200* according to the Autometer gauge. I have the fan set to kick on at 180, has a 180 T stat and a 2 core aluminum radiator with a high flow water pump.

That whole open loop thing is a myth..... I had a long conversation with my tuner about it.

Not sure about open loop myth, but the ECU does run it a little richer to bring the temp up to where it thinks it should be. You can read all about it in the Ford Fuel Injection and Electronic Engine Control.

Mostly it affects things at part throttle cruise, when the CTS sensor sees not enough temp. And it will affect MPG since it's running richer than normal.

Ganzey, not sure where you read 200-220, and what does that mean? Is it oil temperature? Or coolant temperature? Oil temps are typicaly under 300, 250-285 is what I see on the oil temp gauge during a track session. And depending if you have a oil cooler or not wil affect this, plus a few other things.

I have not seen my oil temps get even that high but I have not taken a long drive with it since I got the digital gauges in it.

Myth or not there is no benifit to running a 160 T stat. The engine runs at an optimal tempature. Heat in the engine is not an issue, its excessive heat and the engine runing at 200-210 is right where it should be.

In the summer time, the whole 160 degree thermostat thing is that it cools the engine down to a point when you can get enough air across the coil at highway speeds. The CCRM ect.. still brings the fan on and off at the same temps.
