My guess is that it has something to do with the programmed chip in the
key that allows it to start your car.

Its something that the government uses to track you...

If they wanted, they could even make it self destruction and blow your car up...

thats my guess too....newer vehicles have to have the chip in the key for it to start... i say go put the key in your car and try to start it with it out and it will answer our questions lol

That there is why it costs around $100 to get a new key made. Its the chip that tell the car its you and not someone trying to steel it.

I tried it without the chip, and it does start :dunno:

that's your resistor.
the computer reads across that, and if it's not there, or not the right resistance, no starty!
I think they started doing that in 96.

how come we have to program the keys, if that thing is just a resistor?
