Interesting situation I've been put in. I purchased my pick up about 45 days ago. Just made the first payment. I've already fixed major water leaks, AC drain back issues, New window regulator, and the catalytic converters are starting to make noise. I purchased it from the dealership I worked at, and called the manager, he told me he'd trade me out of it due to all the issues I was having. Great no big deal. Problem is, hardly anything thats trade out able, not to mention they won't give me back full purchase price due to some confusing math and money in it. Essentially speaking I'm about 1200 upside down. I found a 05 325i BMW that I really like, had it fully checked out, and has no issues. My buddys a certified BMW tech at a higher end dealership here. Obviously it's more expensive, I'd essentially have to make up 5200 in the difference. I like the car, but it's a larger payment, which I can handle, but also a bigger commitment. Not to mention I'm not getting full purchase price back here. I'd rather find something cheaper to get into, but its hardly possible due to the financial situation on the cars. The worst part of it, is all this money being spent to fix cars I just use to commute, could have gone into the Mach 1. Makes me sick. So now I'm sitting here baffled as to the best situation possible. On one hand I'd love a BMW, always wanted one. On the other, I'd rather just work on the mach 1. Because I know damn well I'll want to just mod the 3 into crazy awesomeness. Comments? Opinions? Not looking for someone to decide for me, rather just wise words.

Is the truck new? There are Lemon Laws, not sure about there though. Might be worth looking into to get some of your purchase price back?? Just a thought. For some reason, I think there are laws about used vechiles as well, but not totally sure.
I've looked a little into the lemon law. It's all complicated. They are trying to help me some, but like normal they are trying to rear me. I've considered going that route, but the last thing I want to do is burn bridges and essentially loose my job.

In Pa. lemon laws are only for new cars (as far as I know). Usually they are not worth the hassle, you have to have the same problem over and over that can not be fixed for whatever reason. Example: the rear blows up, the dealer rebuilds the rear. This time it is making noise, the dealer installs new bearings. This has to happen 3-4 times over a cirtain time period.
I would make some sort of a deal with the dealership to replace the cats. Did they not give you some sort of warranty? I understand that exhaust is normally not covered, but it is a emissions problem so they might work out a deal. They don't want the truck back, and you will lose cash due to depriciation.
Stay away from the BMW, you don't want a bigger car payment, even if you can afford it.

What else is wrong with the truck? If it's just the cats then ask the dealer to hook you up with parts being that you already dropped money and time on the other repairs.

It's more that I'm already in the hole. Putting another 1000-2000 dollars does not interest me at all in it. I pay for school, all of my bills, and the truck. I don't need to be dropping that much money into it. The rattling cat noise comes around after it gets real hot and you are on the highway. However its not super loud unless you drive it for a long period of time. I'm considering just selling it for pay off (10,300) and cutting my losses.

Cut your losses or fix the pickup. I've heard bad things about BMW reliability and you DO NOT want to be paying for BMW priced parts. It's expensive. Plus, you're already in the hole with the pickup as it is. Car payments aren't fun to have laying around all the time.
Well the Mach would make you feel damn good if you put some more love into it, and by love I mean money lol. Bmws are nice but if I were you I'd find another truck, sell the one you have(you'll make more money than from the dealership)..don't stress too much man. Screw it all and do what you'll be happy with at night. It's your money lol.
Not a big dodge fan. I've driven them.
I really like the BMW though.. It's a tough decision. It even has a factory warranty, and my buddy is damn good with them to. Pretty much told me anything wrong with it I could take it to his dealership and they'd fix it.

wait till you find something that is a better trade or you will oneday regret the extra money you spend on the payment down the road. If it is just for a DD get some dependable but cheaper and save your money for your toys.

if the daily junk box gets to nice the mach will end up in the corner out of no desire to be uncomfortable. trucks are useful for many things like hauling a new engine or trans for mach. bmw parts will be costly reducing $$$$ for mach. this particular truck is eating money up and may need to go before it gets worse but its replacement can't break you either or you will be in same case again.
I know. The main issue I have, is if I botched the truck and managed to get out of it. I'd be rideless. Minus catching ones from other people. Not to mention I'm looking at two jobs that I'd like to secure, that will require me to travel alot. I'd make more money obviously. But I'd need a nice car to drive so that I'd be comfortable.
well you know What you want then. I've driven plenty of bmws I like the 328i the most too. They're very nice cars and got balls too lol. But everything is expensive. And the way it usually works is once the warranty is up, thing start going bad. But that happens with everything. Go for the Beemer man. Good luck. i dont get the thought of getting something else because of a few minor problems.

The truck also requires alot of other things. The catalytic converters through work are easily 1500-2000. One BMW payment is about 300. I bought the truck to keep from having to work on it. I have school and a very temperamental mistress in the garage now that just loves to be worked on. I enjoy working on cars when I don't have to. It's why I don't ever consider being a technician, it would drive me up a wall. I'll still be looking into it tomorrow to figure out the possibility of replacing them.
