Do any of you guys have notched pistons for the 185s? Around how much does it cost for a machinist to do it? Or can someone do this at home?

Rice_slayer said:Nope. AFR 185s need notching, 165s dont, and Twisted wedge don't either...

how do I do that?
Venom351R said:Really? I thought the TW heads needed to have notched pistons...if not thats a huge help b/c I want to get a set of TW heads next year and even though my pistons are already notched for the AFR 185's I didnt know if it was enough.
LAFENATU said:Thats the whole idea of the "twisted" setup. The valves sit at a different angle then your regular small block 302 head. Why would you replace a set of 185's with TW heads?? I hope you're planning on getting them ported, if not you're taking a step back, not a step forward.
Some TFS Hi-Ports or R Series heads would be killer on that car.
bc i didnt own the car at the time the AFR heads were put on. Alot of the mods were done before i bought it and dont suit what im doing with it now so thats why im changing some stuff. Im not a huge fan of afr heads when compared to tf and id rather have my heads and intake matched togetherLAFENATU said:Now, out of curiosity is there a reason you didn' choose a set of ported AFR 205cc heads or even something like a Brodix head?
Every consider the R series from TFS?? Those are some NASTY heads...make lots of power.
