Hey guys,
I've had my 98 gt for a month now and I'm wanting to give it a tune up. I already replaced spark plugs and plug wires. Now I'm gunna do a oil change. I was planning on doin mobile 1 synthetic 10-30. I also heard good things about amsoil, but I cant find it at any of my local auto stores. My mustang is a 98 gt auto, with 138K miles on it. Do yall think this is a good oil choice for my car considering its high mileage. Thanks for the help, I'm new to working on my own car, and I appreciate the help.

moble 1 5W30 in winter 10W30 in summer always using a Napa Gold oil filter.

if you smoke out the exhaust, change over to a synthetic blend oil.

Amsoil makes a great product, but i personally prefer Moble 1 for motor oil and royal purple for everything else.

I'd do the 5W-30. Oil pressure at start-up is quicker and still has the shear strength of a 30 weight at operating temperature. It'll make a touch more power at the same time.
With the tolerances of these new engines, they don't want a slow "pump up". Make sure you get a correct filter with the anti-drainback feature, Motorcraft, WIX, etc. Some cheap filters don't have this.

I like Mobil 1 synthetic. But I use a K&N Oil Filter. It has the 1" nut built on it.

Change your fuel filter too and get a K&N Air filter if you don't already have one.

I like the motorcraft blend oil, cheap and good shit. Here it is like 3-4 a quart compared to the 7-8 of mobile one.

I've been using 10-30W regular fossil oil. Car has 172k miles on it, and seems to be doing pretty good with it, so I'll stick with it.

Amsoil 5w30. I always tossed around the idea of 10w30 but your robbing a "touch" of performance when you put that oil in. I've used 10w30 before a handful times, and used 5w30 almost all the time, just stick with 5w30, and it definitely helps with gas mileage/performance. Just go with the manufactuer's recommendations, unless you have serious leaks present, I wouldn't touch 10w30 if you have mod motor. Pushrods, that could be a different story.

5w and 10w is only the cold temp weight, they both reach 30w when the engine reaches operating temps (hot). 5w will reach the top end slightly faster then 10w btw.
