Which S/C to go with and why

With the purchase of my truck I'm turning my 95 5.0 into my weekend driver and have decided to go the S/C route. Now that I have a DD having the mustang on jackstands won't be a problem, engine wise the car is stock. I've come across a brand new complete Kenne Bell polished 1.5 S/C for $2000 locally, the only problem I have is that it's not the 2.1 LOL. My budget is set at $3,000, with that in mind I wouldn't be opposed to getting a V-3 S-trim which I can get new for $2,850 shipped. I'm sure I could piece something used for cheaper but I'd rather have everything new and complete in a box. Right now I'm debating getting the Kenne Bell for $2k and a set of Twisted wedges with the extra $1k and sell my Eddy to cover the misc. Items, i.e. Gaskets, head bolts, etc. Or slapping the Vortech and my Eddy on the stock engine and leave the head upgrade for down the road even though it's the biggest bottleneck on my car. What do you guys think? What's the better choice of the 2? What other upgrades would I need for either option, MAF, injectors? What about room for growth? Drivability?

Either would be sweet and look to be priced well.
Vortec if u like the increasing feel of a centrifugal power curve.
Ken bell- funner/more punchy on the street because you get all the torque whenever you hit the throttle.

well, if you are completely opposed to buying a used kit of any kind, I would honestly go with the vortech.. I personally have never seen
anything impressive about kenne bells on 5.0s. In addition, if it's not the model of kenne bell you want, then don't bother setteling. While a set of
trickflow heads and a kenne bell would wake your car up, I would think if the 1.5L kit is only rated stock at 6-8psi, even without the heads, putting the vortech on might be about the same numbers depending on boost levels.

when these questions are asked 99% of the guys who have a centri will recommend that, 99% of guys with a roots will recommend that, just the way it goes. Both will max your block out no problem

Can anyone guesstimate what kind of rwhp I could see from each setup mentioned? What about tunability? Is one or the other harder to tune?

Formula for calculating Rwhp on a centrifugal car:

Amount of boost divided by 14.7 + 1 X N/A rwhp

Ex. 7/14.7 = .4762 + 1 = 1.4762 X 263 (based on my cars #) = 388rwhp

Roots/Twin Screw is less efficient so expect less hp (there's no formula for roots since there is too many variables)

I am a KB fan but I wouldn't run a 1.5, I'm glad i waited for a 2.2. Like mentioned above if you're going for HP numbers the KB is not a good choice, but damn it's a blast to drive.

I have been in both types of setups and the kb car i was in was pretty neat, but didnt hook for anything. I'm a fan of building boost so you have my vote for a centri

2.1 or bust... don't even bother with the 1.5L, you'll be wasting your time. As far as vortec vs kb, it depends where you are driving, your driving style, and what you are doing with the car. If you're looking for high trap speeds, a lot of racing, etc. then the centri is the way to go. If you like stop light to stop light, instant power, tons of torque, ungodly gorgous whine, and just a great driving experience, the kb is the way to go. Also, if you are coming dyno numbers, the kb's really honestly suck on the 5.0's... But that doesn't mean they suck on the street.

I've been debating doing a turbo kit, but I'm pretty sure it's way out of my budget at least for a good quality kit. If anyone wants to piece me one together for a price close to my budget with everything included MAF, injectors, etc. I'd be really grateful :headbang:

yeah definitely, honestly any f/i is expensive...people always think "oh it will only cost me 2k or 3k......you always wind up wanting more and more

I pieced a B&G turbo kit with wastegate, BOV, master power turbo and braided lines for $2550. Plus injectors and MAF: $400 (used) 255 Lph pump $100. Plus $500 tune. Is $3550 minus shipping close to accurate?

Is a tubular k-member necessary for the B&G? I know it's needed for the on3performance kit
