The throw out bearing will do the opposite of what you're experiencing. The throw out bearing will squeal when you push the clutch in. You said you push the clutch in and the noise goes away. That would be a bad pilot bearing.

This is wrong.



Anyway, you can get a Cobra clutch with the Ford all-steel throwout bearing and new pilot bearing for pretty cheap. Lots of folks have had good luck with the Centerforce Dual Friction - I just don't use them because I've had TWO come apart on me. One even left a nice hole the bellhousing as a reminder.

Make sure to inspect the main bearing retainer (the collar that the TOB rides on) for any galling, and replace as necessary. If you have to do that, you'll also need to make sure that the endplay spec is still appropriate on the input shaft, and shim as necessary.
