Why are alternators so expensive?

So my alternator went out the other day drving off a ramp from the highway..

Why are they so freaking expensive for our cars? A refurbished one is well over $100. A new one is tons more.

What gives? Every other car I've ever replaced the alternator on cost me around $60.

maybe because our stock alt is as powerful (130a) as alot of other cars aftermarket alts.

Did they tell you that there is a core charge deduction?

i bought mine off ebay.

Napa has them for like $160 PLUS the core charge on top of that.. for their base refurb!
