I don't think so but your car will start to throw codes unless you get MIL eliminators. Plus, do you have emissions where you live?

at certain rpm's you may lose a little tq, but nothing you'll notice. You'll actually gain power overall.

Do it!

kenne bell has done litterally 100000000000 tests on using cats and they litterally dont rob any power... even on their 600+HP cobras.... .. why put for effort to make your car smell like a pile of poo?

if you are getting an o/r pipe and want to save $50.00, thats one thing... but if you are going to cut out OEM parts on an OEM pipe in an effort to gain power, you wont.

im probably the only guy here who says: Keep the cats. im having a custom pipe made, and its got cats.

I'm pretty sure they're talking about aftermarket midpipes with highflow cats vs offroad, I can't imagine the stock H pipe not robbing power especially in the 600hp range.

"Karl's east coast speed
827HP Shelby. Headers, 3" x pipe and no cats. 2HP!"

"Our 1000HP Air flow bench reads 407 cfm stock and 549 cfm gutted and no HP gain at 775RWHP."

there are countless other sources for the same data. I just chose kenne bell because i could find it quickly if someone wanted some concrete information...

On the dyno you may lose a little TQ down low but you wont notice it, just not as much back pressure without the cats. I run a highflow catted H and it sounds great and plenty loud.

Removing a catalytic converter you will not GAIN hp, what you will do is free up already available hp. The power is already there, your just making the it available for other modifications (basically just allowing the air to move more freely, but as chris said its a slight amount)

Gain hp=no
Free up already made hp = yes.

That's really interesting. Logically I would have never thought that. I mean, 6 cats stock, Removing them one would think you'd free something up. I guess the "power" is more so from pipe design then anything. Old clogged cats however, different story. Obviously. :icon_salut:

with stock 2.73, 3.08 or 3.27 gears in an AUTO you will notice a loss of low end torque, i did on both my 95 and my 96.

with gears or a 5 speed you wont notice it much.

the top end is where the o/r midpipes show their worth.

Did they also show a graph of the hp & tq by time (time it takes the engine to get to peak power)? Restriction is restriction, period. This is why an O/R midpipe may not make more power, but it'll lower. Et and raise mph.
