One more great reason to not buy a new car.... I hate politics, and how our government wants to control everything... Anyways /endrant...

I'll stick with my non-black boxed old car :)

Doesn't progressive already do it? They promise rates won't go up, but used for discounts for safe driving...

Hey Prokiller it may bring insurance costs down because the insurance companies will know everytime you exceed the posted speed limit & either fine you or drop you...if you spin your wheeels they will know it....in a crash they will know who was doing what that caused it...there will be no hiding anything ...there will be no way to enjoy a performance car even a little. For instance if you have a nice Boss 302LS & just happen to generate too much G force on a curvy road they might want to punish you for it by raising your rates, give you a monetary fine,,, turn you in to DMV or police for reckless driving...pull your license & ban you from having insurance.

All these things will be decided not by you but by those that will decide your fate for you. Is this an invasion of privacy? Think about it & do not just quietly accept this kind of future....Think it can't or won't happen? Some car rental companies already track their cars & record if you were speeding...then when you turn the car in thay hand you a nice $400-$800 fine for speeding in their car!! It has already been upheld in court.

From Jalopnik. Supposedly most cars already have them.

GM was the pioneer here, starting to install them in the late '90s, and by 2005 a number of marques (GM, Ford, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Suzuki) were putting them on everything. According to the NHTSA, about 91.6% of cars currently have them.
Here's a list.Notable exceptions are Audi and Mercedes-Benz, but this new law will change that.
