ok i was going to wait till i got the car rebuilt but now im thinking ive made a dumb decision.

i haven't but a tuner yet because i was going to wait on the engine to be rebuilt.. but is there any harm in just buying an xcal3 (i will be buying one once the engine is rebuilt anyways) and getting the car tuned? my motor does go through about a quart of oil every week or 2 and its got 113xxx miles on it. its not in the best condition ever (which is why its getting rebuilt) but the AF ratio is TERRIBLE! the last dyno i got stopped at like 5k because it got so bad.

so is there any harm in getting a tune on the car, more so a safe tune that will just make the car run smoother?

if your car burns a quart a week, you need to save every dime and put a new motor together immediately...i wouldn't risk having the car blow up on you driving down the highway.

i vote the same way DFG does. if it uses that much oil save up as much as you can, then rebuild it, then
buy a tuner. my GT has like 94 thou on the clock but was still mechanically sound, thats why i bought my
xcal3. (that and with the mods i had done my A/F was wayyy lean)

well i calculated my MPG and like 75% highway/25% city im getting close to 11mpg.......

i filled up my gas tank and drove about 105 or so miles and then refilled when i got back next to my house to see how much gas i used. i ended up using 10 gallons of gas and only driving 105 miles...

so getting an xcal3 just to correct my AF ratio wouldn't be worth it?

it could very well be. what mods do you have. the main thing we are saying is save up and get the engine fixed cause the 375 you spend on the tuner goes a long way towards a rebuild. yea, the tuner IMO is worth every cent. there arent many mobds out there that can knock 3.75-4 tenths of your ET while at the track, and then put a different tune to get good gas MPG during the week. according to a HP calculator i should be putting roughly 250 to the flywheel.

I wouldn't be surprised if you already washed down the cylinder walls and hosed any ring seal you may have had left. Just save for the rebuild man, and try not to drive it if you don't have too.

i have to drive it because its my only car.

and im not paying for my rebuild, my dad is. i will get it hopefully in the next 3 months. we are trying to sell our house and the market gets better at the first of the year. so once we sell the house, im getting fully forged internals and keeping my stock crank. as well as gettin the heads reworked.

so i dont really have to save for my rebuild. i will probably pay my dad back out of good will though once i get my summer job again. but for now i dont need to save for it.

oh, lol. well in that case get it rebuilt as soon as you can. what all mods do you have trey? the tuner might
not help your bad A/F depending on your mods. what all do you have done to it?

what all can you do with an x cal 3 anyway? is it just like 4 settings like gas mileage, performance, high performance, race ? or can u individually tune each aspect?

You can tweak timing, fuel trim, idle speed, fan on temp, etc. withing a set range of parameter's.

mods as far as playing with the AF ratio would be a JLT cold air intake, 2 chamber flows, MAC o/r hpipe.. thats all i think as far as things that would play with the AF ratio.

my car's fuel mileage is steadily getting worse... At the beginning of summer I would get 250 miles out of 3/4 of a tank. then around starting back up and going to school i got about 200 to 3/4 of a tank. Now in the past couple weeks I've gotten 150 mile on 3/4 of a tank. idk wtf is happening, I haven't been driving differently and i've been keeping my foot out of it.

I just did a tune up new plugs and did a test on the wires, new oil change and air filter, and my car is coilpacks. Fuel Pump was replaced about 20k miles ago along with the fuel filter. (owner before me) and I think they said the filter is inside the fuel pump.

The only thing I can think of is clogged cats :?

damn, you have bigger problems than that. normally those mods make you lean out. might wanna rebuild asap before those ring are washed out

i can't just go rebuild it though... :santa_undecided:

if we still have Gearheads do my rebuild, it will cost anywhere from 3500 - 4500 dollars...
