There is so much more to this story then what is being typed, but it should give the main story.
I got my farmers license when i was 16, and my neighbor is a old man whos son i law was chief of police. Needless to say, he didnt like my loud exhaust but in nj he couldnt do anything about it. So he requested his son stops me as much as possible. Needless to say, in my first month of driving i had well over 30 tickets on my record, only one point violation.... This leads to my big story.
I was 18, in my friends 92 accord. He had a bad vibration at highway speeds, so i took it out with him in the passenger seat to test it. I took the car to its speed governor, at 110 mph. It was 11pm and the highway was dead. I was on the highway for 1 mile, then exited down a straight downhill 1/4 mile offramp. At the stop sign i lit a cigarette and saw in my mirror a police officer coming fast. So i waited. Quickly 1 cop turned into 9. Apparently, in the 1 miles i was on the highway, i was doing 145mph, i eluded him, made 16 illegal lane changes, and was wrecklessly driving. I admit, i was speeding, and the speeds could be considered wreckless. Now, after they proceeded to rip us from the car and pistol whip my friend unconcious, i was taken to the station. At the station i was given a choice, Eluding 2nd degree, attempted manslaughter of a police officer for speeds in excess of 99 mph, and a bunch of tickets... Or i could take all that, PLUS grand theft and kidnapping to keep my friend from being charged with aiding and abedding. It would be his 3rd strike, and he did nothing wrong so i took that too. The police officers joked about how many tickets the record was for one stop, and proceeded to write a lot of bs to make ME their new highest ticketee.
Now onto the police report... It stated the officer was traveling the opposite way on the highway, and had to cross over and catch up to me. In 1 mile, i never even saw him. He was in a (not supposed to be) unmarked, jet black expedition limited to 99 mph. It had one tiny red light in the windshield, as it was brand new and had not been outfitted for police duty yet. In the report, he said he could see the passenger looking back at him, however said he could not get a vehicle description or plate number. Ironic too that the car had 5% tint and it was night. Also ironic that if im doing, supposedly 145, and he is limited to 99 and he is turning around, how i am supposed to see him at all. Also, how did i endanger his life if he could not go over 99?
So now to court. Looking at 25 years in jail over this. Pretrial comes, and im sitting in court. My lawyer walks in, has a paper to sign. Something called PTI (Pre Trial Intervention). I ask he says its a get out of jail free card. Thats all he said. I saw the judges sig, Asst prosecutor sig, Probation sig, but the Prosecutors sig was empty. 30 minutes later i am called up. The judge states this case has a lot of contradicting issues. The prosecutor looks at me and says "You are the luckiest kid i have ever, and will ever meet. If i had my way (as he looks at the judge in disgust), you would be in jail for a VERYYYY long time. You have a huge list of violations, most being small but still shows you as being careless to the law." The judge rattles off my punishment. 10 years probation, consisting of 3 years strict weekly visits, 1 year monthly visits, and 6 years staying clean and not being arrested. 1 year loss of license, 22 points worth of tickets and a whopping $375 in fines. At the end, he says, you can file for expongement. If you follow these rules you will be found not guilty of all charges and your record whiped clean by court order. My bail was also held until my final date of probation, which really hurt me. It was $10000 i paid in full instead of using a bondsman.
There were many factors in why i am not in jail to this day. One being my squeeky clean criminal record. One being drug free and HONEST with the probation officer in my before trial conversation with her. I had a really good lawyer. And, apparently, my father was a retired State Police Officer. He still wont talk about him ever being one, or admitting it, but he was.
The story gets better. About 2 years ago, the officer who arrested me and lied so many times, was convicted of tampering with evidance on state and federal levels, falsifying statements, and illegal search and arrests. His father, was a highly decorated state trooper who died in the line of duty. He has since been trying to live to his fathers name. His father, was my fathers commanding officer.
Moral of the story. Kharmas a *****, dont ever EVER speed because police can make it SO much more then speeding sometimes, and be HONEST with the law whenever questioned. I honestly, swear to my life was just speeding. I never would think of outrunning them. But that night, i almost lost my life in another way then death over a simple speeding violation and a crooked, wanna be hero cop. A lot of luck went into my freedom. Im still to this day paying for my speeding, with 20 points on my license. My insurance isnt bad, but finding work is a lot harder.
