I know I know this is a Mustang forum but you guys are pretty knowledgeable around here and I'm pretty tired of this

Long story short:
The other day my radiator blew on my ZJ. Replaced it, upper and lower rad hoses, thermostat, and it still overheated. Pulled hoses and ran a water hose through the rad to make sure it wasn't clogged, everything was good so tried again. Still overheated. Tried old thermostat. Still overhead. Tried removing rad cap to release air, tried removing the top rad hose while running to see if anything would happen.. Etc etc etc. Pretty much through process of elimination I got it down to the bastard child otherwise known as the water pump.

Ripped the old one off 2 nights ago, finally got time to get the old gasket cleaned off the block today and the new one on. Now it leaks........ So question is did I do something wrong or what? I used a Fel-Pro gasket instead of the supplied gasket, but I can't for the life of me remember if my dad said "use the felpro" or "don't use the felpro" and it was 1230am I wasn't waking him up to find out. But it's either a bad gasket issue or the bolts aren't torqued correctly. I used the German torque style, gudentight on it, but I didn't have any leaking issues on my dads 7.3's water pump and I did the same thing on that, just mine go figure.

So should I buy a new gasket, or use the supplied gasket? And are these bolts torque to yield? If so that could be the issue too... I know this sounds stupid as hell but I'd rather hear it from you guys than to try something and it fail again, this is getting really old and really expensive. I'm having to drive the BBQ company (who owns the warehouse I'm working in, moms best friend owns the company) 6.0 PSD and diesel gas is super pricey over here. It's hella fun to drive to since it's got a S&B intake, Banks exhaust, and Edge Juice with attitude tuner on it.. So keeping my foot out of the throttle is proving very difficult. One whistle of that turbo and it's like an orgasm to your ears. Fukker burns rubber, shifts gears and burns some more lol. So yeah.. I'd like to get my heep back on the road. Any input on what I should do would be grrrrreatly appreciated!

there's a good possibility you didn't get the block face clean enough, or there's a problem with the face of the water pmp, or the gasket slipped.
I usually use a gasket adhesive on one side of the gasket,. thinner than RTV but similar .

Okay yeah I didn't even think to put it on the gasket itself. I put a few dabs on some corners to kinda hold it in place but didn't think it would be a good idea to put it all the way around.. I guess if I make a nice thin bead it should be fine. And when I tighten it down again it should keep everything in place. Thanks guys I'll give that a shot next!

The old gasket stuck to the block like it was glued on so it's taken me a good long while to get the surface cleaned up, but I'll go over that again too, to make sure I got it all off
