I have a SVT COBRA with a 5.0L engine. There is a lot of play in the steering rack. (I jacked the car and yanked on the wheels.)

Can I buy one of the low cost standard steering rack kits (Rack, tie rod ends, stabilizer links)
or do I need a specific model for the COBRA?

The car has 112k miles. Great shape. Never driven in winters. Stored in heated garage.

p.s. Should I consider replacing ALL the front end pats including struts, control arms...

Regards S

I'm pretty sure all 94-04 are all the same, except for the 03/04 Cobras.

Yes, replace everything. It's all going to be rotted and/or worn.

Before condemning the rack, get under there and pull on everything. I’d suspect bad rack bushings and tie rod ends before the rack itself.

We never hear of a steering rack slopping out. Im with @07GtS197 on this one. Jack up the front, placing jackstands on the lower control arms close to the wheels and start man handling all the steering components, like tierod ends. You may find your answers

Hands at 12 and 6 o'clock on the tire, if the wheel moves independently of the spindle or brake caliper that usually indicates a blown bearing. At 3 and 9 o'clock it usually indicates steering component failure(s). Helps to have two sets of eyes while you're grasping at the wheels.
