Um......rather hard......and it will cost a lot. Here is a start:

PI Heads or better
PI Intake or better
Better than PI Cams
CAI
TB and Plenum
Mid Pipe
Headers
Exhaust
Tuning....

There is a guy who did it on here, but I think he also has a stroker kit as well.

You don't need to do PI heads unless you just want to. You can get very close if you do

Your current heads (can run a much bigger cam in NPI heads than you can in PI heads without notching the pistons)
PI intake or better (the better the intake of course more power)
Some MHS NPI cams stage 2 or bigger depending on your budget.
+ the standard rest of bolt ons.

This way saves you from ripping apart the engine completely. Just a cam swap (maybe spings depending on cam selection) with an intake. Plus a tune of course.

I'm assuming you have basic bolt onts already.

My 96Gt currently has basic bolt ons and the PI intake. It is so much better than before. Come spring I'm tearing it down and doing some Cobra flat tops to bump compression, and basically what I posted above. Should see good results. I may switch it to the edelbrock intake though. Haven't decided.

Anyway, check this link out. The NPI heads were not the 96-98 2v's problem. Crappy cam/intake were.

You don't have to tear the motor down to get close if you choose your parts wisely.
If you get MHS cams you can have them degree them before they ship them to you and you can just line the dots up and go.

all i gotta say is...WAYYY TOO MUCH TIME AND MONEY FOR 300hp....thats forged territoiry...fk all the bullshit and throw in a 5.4 or 4.6 dohc, less work, less money easier power...

when i had my 98 4.6 it had PI cams, ported typhoon manifold, 75mm plenum and Tbody, plenum spacer, msd packs and wires , 180 degree thermostat, intake , tuner , exhaust and nitrous..even on a 100shot it didnt have the power id have liked...all that sht on that eng equals my STOCK 98 32v i have now...just keep it in mind..

and i beg to differ..the heads WERE the restristion on the NPI's....ever look at the cam durations on npi to pi and the flow numbers on the Pi to npi? not that nig of a diffrence...BUT go look at the pi to npi ports alone and you can just see the problem the npi ports have..small size, dont match the intake worth a shit, and have a nice sharp edge on the ports to ****up air flow...

The NPI heads flow more intake velocity than the PI heads.

The NPI's were restricted on exhaust. Cam it accordingly and be done wtih it.

Do some current research.
The PI intake and cams are better than the NPI intake and cams by far. I'm not saying stick with the NPI intake or its cams. The intake along with terrible cam specs choke the living crap out of NPI heads.

However.... A Custom NPI cam with a PI intake or better. Makes solid power. Look it up. Doing this is something that has only occured in the last couple years. So many people are still PI or nothing.... It's simply not the case if you do it properly.

And your problem with your old car. Was the PI cams. They are better than the NPI ones. But are terrible in those heads.

The NPI heads want a newer style PI or Vic jr intake with some Big nasty cams that you CANNOT fit in PI heads without notching pistons. However these cams fit fine in NPI heads which is where the power comes from. End of story.

And just so I'm not confusing people. When I say put a NPI cam in those NPI heads. I'm not referring to the stock NPI cams. I'm referring to some cams spec'd specifically to make power on NPI heads that again, will not work in PI heads unless pistons are notched.

So a custom grind set of cams, not ones that you can get out of a place like American Muscle or CJ's. Tuning plays a lot as well, as you want it to be streetable. In talking to my tuner, the more cost effective way is to boost these engines.

Correct, Modularheadshop has 5-6 custom grinds for the NPI heads that work very well.

And yes, quickest way to power is boost. But eventually if you go high enough or if you'd rather start with a built engine first there is no way of going around it. Sooner or later most people do both.

I have seen fully built na 2v's and very few of them have hit the magical 300 mark. Basic bolt ons wont do it.

Once I hit 420 rwhp, that is all I am doing to my 04 GT.....then it will be time for something that is already at that point, however I will keep the 04.

;)

-Pi heads that are ported, milled and valve job on the seats. Leave the swirl dams alone!
-Pi plastic intake.
-balance the piss out of your rotating assembly.
-Not bigger but tighter lsa cams then stock. You dont need the biggest cam a 2v can withstand.
-upgraded springs.
-flat top pistons for higher compression. 12.x compression is a even start for 93 octane. E85 and meth will allow you to use higher compression. 13.x and so.
-long tubes.... Not really a best longtube needed neither. Mac is decently priced and works.

Ntk o2 sensors are most accurate.
Ngk tr6 plugs are notably worth while...

This is not a bible but known to work.

big bore and vermillion are both giving you great advice. I tend to side with vermillion because thats the route I'm currently taking, and I really think that you're robbing yourself of compression when you skip on the PI heads.

those who say it's a waste of time may be right. these motors are not beasts, and boosting them is really the most feasible way to get reliable power. you can only go so far N/A and stay streetable. I chose to stay N/A because I'm stubborn, but I won't ask you to follow me off the cliff!

So which cams should I go with from modularheadshop if I plan on running a 100 shot in my 2v and keep the NPI heads with a PI intake?

I just went on their site. They do have a custom grind cam for a n20 setup.

I am not a fan of spray for many reasons......plastic intake, the rotating assembly, and when the bottle is gone, so is the fun.....all good reasons against spray.

All good points.. But its also cheap, easy to get, and a proven way to make cheap power.. Plus im not just throwing a bottle in and hooking it up like some kid in a Honda.. I have a WOT activated ZEX wet injected kit and purge kit already and Sat. im picking up a 15lb bottle.. But before I ever spray I will have all the saftey precautions I can ill be getting a window and fuel pressure saftey cut off switch before anything even gets installed

Ive spent alot of time reading up on it before I made my mind up to spray.. and theres plenty of guys with 2v 4.6s spraying that havent had any problems as long as you take the right precautions..

I would have it dyno tuned (with or with out the cams), that way you know it is a safe (well as safe as possible) setup.

Thats also in the plans but Im going to have it done after I get all the major stuff done (mainly the cams intake and spray)

The spray isnt going to be a daily thing its probably going to be used at the track more than anything and we only do drags here in the summer months on Friday night..

I'm a bit late, but the reason npi can run more aggressive cams than pi heads is because npi have more valve clearance. Npi valves are somewhat rounded on the edge allowing the greater piston to valve clearance.
