331 or 351?

well, i'm getting ready to build my bottom end and i'm having problems choosing what set up to run. just wondering what would be a better choice to go with? i'm thinking either a production block and a 331 or a 351(357) or maybe even a 393. i'm trying to do this with a cheap budget in mind but I want good enough parts it will last. the parts I have are a brand new set of AFR 185's, procharger D1 w/ 3 core innercooler, trick flow track heat R intake, bbk 75mm t/b, steeda 19 cam and 1.7 rr. i'm looking to make 550 at the wheels. what do you guys think?

Small block 306, stock crank, stock rods, nice set of forged pistons.

No need for a stroker or big cube shortblock with boost. You can easily make 500+ with a 306/blower combo.

I had a buddy say just to get a 87-91 short block,clean it up and throw fresh bearings in and run it. I just don't want to break anything or pull it out a couple of months later cause I want more.

Why an 87-91? Regardless, I don't know where your gonna find a 87-92 shortblock that will not need new rings etc. Hyper pistons are not bad, just not as strong as a forged piston.

If your looking to make 500+ rebuild the shortblock so it is fresh.

Figure out EXACTLY how much you can spend. Then back into what you CAN build based off that.

I would do a 306 or a 331. I am going to just do a 306 with a H/C/I then when i get bored with it I'll throw on a Supercharger.

i'm looking for the best bang for my buck. i want a relieable 550 rwhp that I can drive to work when I want to. i've got a buddy that has a 357 all forged with all the swap stuff for $1000. I just need to assemble the short block.

there are a lot of additional costs going to a 351 whereas you could use that additional money to get a aftermarket 8.2" deck based block that will take a lot more power then any stock 9.5" deck block
