When i start the motor i have to pump the gas pedal a couple times and once it start it idles real low and black smoke come out of the tail pipes. Its only on cold start up i have to pump the gas pedal to start is that normal? Once the motor warms up the motor runs fine and theres no black smoke? The motor is carbed so what could be causing this? Any info will be greatly appreciated Thanks.

Pumping the gas pedal on a carbed car injects fuel into the intake. If you need to do this for a start then the carb choke isn't set up correctly. You will need to familiarize yourself with the specs for your carb to tune it properly.

The 351, is it a flat motor?

Your going to need retrofit lifters if you want a roller.

Off the top of my head..your going to need a PCM, wiring harness, injector harness, injectors, fuel pump, sending unit, lines, fuel pump relay, intake manifold.

Im sure there is more...

he is asking you if it is a flat tappet cam, he should have been more descriptive :p

i would assume this is the stock 87 carb? if that is the case more then likely that puppy needs a rebuild as it is over 20 years old. if that is indeed what the problem is your best bet is to buy a new edelbrock carb. they are pretty much ready to go out of the box and will be reliable for you.

O flat tappet well should have said that ha ha. Im not sure i would assume it is since its a 87. Yeah i'll probably just buy a need carb or switch to fuel injection, probably just buy a new carb though.

I would buy a new carb. Don't even rebuild the original..your gonna end up replacing it anyways.
