just bought my cobra last week and its been idling fine with the spout connector disconnected (the previous owner ran the car with it disconnected and said it threw off the timing). I timed it at 12 but after you connect the spout the idle goes loopy and the car doesn't run well. I've changed the coil, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. cleaned the intake sensors by following http://www.muscularmustangs.com/iac.php (its in the sticky thread for surging idle). but on step 3 disconnecting the battery for 30 mins, disconnecting the idle motor, reconnecting the battery then starting with the idle motor disconnected the car would start for more than 2 sec's then shut off. Does anyone have any ideas?

welcome to the site.
With my spout out it will only go up to 3000 PRM's then fall on it's face.
I would say to verify your timing. Not by using the timing marks on the HB by actually finding TDC. The Hb has been known to slip and cause bad timing readings and vibrations. Or replace the HB if it's the origional. It's over due anyway.

My timing marks are way off due to the HB slipping. Plan on replacing it.... eventually lol Just did the timing by ear and feel after I put the new distributor in it. Timing marks were showing up on the driver's side of the engine instead of the passenger side where the timing pointer is

Timing by ear is useless.

if the hb slipped, time for a new one, but why not just pop the #1 plug out and feel TDC with a screwdriver and mark where it sits on the scale. Then time it.

my 94 idles weird as well. But my timing is on que. it idled great with a fox ecu.

yeah about 2500 the power goes away. is there anything i should look for when buying a hb?

just ran the self test and KOER tests:
self test got all 1's then the KOER got 172 hego indicates lean, and 213 spout circuit open. (yes the spout was in)

the spout is nothing but a jumper to connect one wire to the other wire on the pigtail.
By removing the spout, the computer is not allowed to advance the timing.
No special requrements for replacing the HB. Just what ever your bank account allows. Youll need a 50oz HB

i ended up checking the ignition module at autozone and it passed on their machine 7 times (had to make sure it warmed up). Ordered a distributor and that ended up fixing the 213 fault. Thank you all for the help!
