Guys, meet my new girl. Her name Tammy Lynn, she's 21, has a pretty good body, but she's kind of a butter face. I'm pretty sure she's been passed around a lot, but she's from out of state so none of my friends will know for sure.

But I like her, she's a cheap date, picked up for 1g. Sure she's a little bit embarrassing to be seen with, and you're mom would definitely not approve... but when you're inside Tammy Lynn none of that matters...

This is going to be a junk yard and swap meet build. Nothing about this car will be more than thrown together. No shows for this pig.

Motor: Stock explorer motor with upgraded springs and cam. Unsure of the cam, just whatever I find, cheap and used... just like Tammy.

Tranny: Actually shifts great and is noise free, so I'll try finding a decent short throw shifter to keep her that way.

Rearend: I'm going to go to the junk yard and find some 3:73's out of an explorer. yeah, that's the direction this build is going.

Paint: I'll be doing all the prep work.. then I'll either take it to Maaco or say the hell with it and try spraying it myself.

Interior: Her cockpit is a little dirty and slightly loose... like it's missing bolts and random pieces and has annoying rattles. I'm going to pull the interior, power wash it, put it back together with all the bolts and nuts... and replace anything that's suppose to be there and isn't, or that's broke. JUNK YARD POWA! clean and tight feeling, that's how I like my cockpits.

Hey as long as her body upgrades are in good taste, and she doesn't have any stupid tattoos or feel like there's a million miles on the ol drive train. What's there to lose?? haha

I've been going back and fourth on rather to build the engine or do the body work first. Well yesterday I was bored, so I took some red spray paint I had sitting around and sprayed on a light guide coat. I noticed the color was pretty close, so I laid down a wet coat just to see what it would look like. The color matched better than expect. I was going to color sand and then spray on another coat, but I ran out of time after wet sanding. I think I'm going to lay down a few coats, wet sand, then buff it out... and leave it until summer.

That way, I can focus on building the motor and getting some 3:73 gears put it.

I didn't get a picture of the paint before I color sanded, because intended on finishing it yesterday. I'll finish it over thanksgiving break.

I got some 5.0 parts to sell cheap if you need anything to keep this moving forward.

Tammy has been nestled away in the garage the last few weeks. Finally got her out yesterday, went out to my property (in the country) and ran some sea foam through her. Then ran and got some oil, a filter, and a bottle of stp. Also picked up 8 autolite 24 plugs. Here soon, maybe next weekend, iI'm going to pick up an explorer motor and start looking for a used cam. Sosmething along the lines of the tfs1, steeda 19, comp cams xe270hr, or perhaps the almighty b cam.

Thinking about trying to find a gt40 motor instead of one with the gt40ps. I realize I might be giving up some power, but it'll open up more header choices and make future plug changes easier.

Generally speaking, in stock form the gt40p heads do a little better than the gt40s.

I found a gt40p motor with 170,xxx miles that's rated at grade a and comes with a 90 day warranty for 290 bucks. I'm picking it up on tuesday. Have wtb ads up every where for a good cam.

Tammy Lynn is getting a heart transplant.

So I was on the local mustang fb page last night, and I come across a Cobra r hood for 75 bucks. I asked the guy if it was a pin on hood or bolt on... he said it has hood pins by the latch, but it did have the provisions for the latch. Sweet, sent him money via fb.

Make the 1.5 hr trip to get the hood, show up at the address and he or the hood is there. His mom calls him, he said he just sent me a message and its at his brothers, he left it outside against the house because nobody is going to be home. Errr.

I go to his brothers, hoods there wrapped in a sheet. A little odd, so I unwrap it, and see the hinge area is ripped out. Awesome. Send him a picture, and he's like my ad said it was and I told u via pm. Go through my pms, nothing about any damage to the hinges. Post up on the page I bought it from, everyone says they didn't see where he said anything about damage. He's now removed from the page.

It's a cervini hood, and in decent shape besides the hinge area. Could be pinned on and made into a life off hood I guess.. err

I mentioned earlier that I had found a gt40p headed long block with 17x,xxx miles on it for 290. Grade a part with a 90 day warranty. Good enough for this pig.

Went up and paid for the motor, they had me pull around back so they could load it up for me... after about 15 Mins of them searching, they realized that it must of been sold and NOT pulled out of invertory. Luckily, they're good people and gave me their only other explorer motor they had... a 97,xxx mile motor for the same price as the 17x,xxx mile motor. this thing was spotless.

Posted on one of the local mustang Facebook pages about needing some valve springs. One of the kids I dealt with before had a trick flow spring kit on some gt40p that made one run on the dyno and then discover that one of the heads were cracked. Bought the heads with the valve springs for 100 bucks. The trick flow kit has crappy valve seals so I wouldn't of used them anyways. The rest of the kit I'll use.

The bad head I'm going to practice porting one... then I'll pick up another good used head so I have a pair of heads I can port and rebuild for my next project.

Sprayed the engine bay with simple green and scrubbed most of the gunk off.... it's going to warm up early next week so I plan on power washing the engine bay and doing a quick scuff and shoot.

So I took the car down to the car wash and power wash the crap out of the engine bay... then I scuffed it and shot it with some color and clear coat from a rattle can. Not perfect, but pretty decent.

I like what you are doing! Very interesting approach. Looks like our cars are the next series of good Mustangs to rebuild! Not too expensive & tons of parts around! Looking good.
