Sounds like its an explorer motor, nothing exciting on its own but should be plenty of fun in a small truck

ok, I know when I skim through the 5.0 section there always talking about GT-40 heads and I didnt know if it was anything special or not. and the way its looking, the truck also has a ford racing cam and full flowmaster exhaust. and 70k on the engine.

Sounds cool! In '97, it was still a 5.0, though? I was thinking they went to the 4.6's. Looks like they did have the 5.0L's, that's why I don't bet!

It would be an explorer engine. They have a GT40 intake thats about the same as the Cobra and the Tubular one, cept its kinda ugly lol. I don't know about the heads though... 5.0 rangers are fun.

The 5.0 was used in the mustang until 95, and ford still used in in the explorers up until 00 or 01 i believe.. His ranger he is refering
too is a 5.0 swapped into a ranger, the rangers never had a 5.0 from the factory.

That should be a fun little toy. I've always wanted to swap a 5.0 into something stupid, like an escort, or ford festiva haha.

Yeah, the best way to find out info like that is by me looking on Ebay Motors. I saw that 97 Explorers did have the 5.0's. Like I said, would have lost that bet!!

I am hoping to get it. I would be trading my 280z but it seems to be worth it. and I found out it has an 8.8 with 3.73 gears

If I ever wreck my stang (god forbid) I plan on swapping the motor, tranny, all that good stuff into a first gen ranger, dropin it, and painting it black. I've always wanted to ddo it, just got wait to get hit. lmao

I just googled curb weight, 94-95 Mustang gt weigh as less as 3055lbs, and a 97 Ranger weighs as less as 2970lbs for a short cab reg. bed.
I think the lightness in the rearend of the ranger will make it more fun, but the curb weight of the ranger will also increase with the extra
pounds of the v8. should be a nice toy either way, and a lot nicer than a ricer racer.

so from what you have said about the weight, it should about as fast as a comparable 5.0 mustang, thats kinda cool. I really want this thing

I'm sorry i wouldn't trade a 78 280z for a 5.0 swapped ranger. just my .02

why? I've been trying to trade it for a v-6 mustang and had no luck. so getting a v8 ranger seems great to me.

i was going to buy a mazda with the 5.0 swapped in in a few years ago (same as the ranger) i drove the truck a few times, the power was great but all it did was spin, fun truck if you like doing burn outs in.
Is it 5 speed or auto ?

theres nothing wrong with it, I am just looking for a small truck. and this ranger seems to be what i want. I cant haul a fourwheeler with a datsun, mustang, or samurai.

Sure you can with that samuri. I am just thinking it's not easy to come by a clean 280 z and it has the straight 6 in it right???
