So I was in an accident today, everone is ok. Other guy at fault, turned left in front of me, I couldn't see him from the right lane, I don't think he could see me either as there was a truck in the left lane waiting for him to turn.

So how long does it take to get a car back? And how do you guy's get cool stuff like Cobra hoods and bumper's? My car needs both, and a fender now.

how long to get it back depends on what body shop you take it too and how far they are backed up. The fix itself could be done in a few days or less but having to get " in line" with other cars is what sucks. Do you have pics of the damage? As far as getting a neat hood or cobra front bumper you would have to talk to the body shop on that, Im sure the INS company is not going to pay any thing other than what the stock parts cost so any increse in cost will come out of YOUR pocket. Have you taken your car in for you OWN damage sheet?? You need to do that because the INS comp is going to give you a LOW ball one, most of the time it wont cover the real cost of fixing your car. Take it to at least 3 shops and I reccomend going to a FORD lot for one of them so you can say to the ins company " hey I have a estimate from the FORD LOT saying what its going to cost so dont screw me around" also you want FORD PARTS nothing else......no cheap knock off parts

Interesting, i need to meet with the adjuster Monday, the car is not driveable. Well it is but the horn won't stop, the bag's are popped, so Geico towed it to the local Ford dealer. I will get my GF's camera and get pics, would that be enough for body shop estimates? I can't afford to drag the thing all about Riverside county.

And I hate my new Aveo :lame:

Another thing you WERE NOT at fault so DEMAND from the INS company a RENTAL CAR, they are going to give you some crap about your car being old :blah2: :blah2: dont let them stiff you DEMAND a rental........say this is my daily driver and I have to have a ride to work/school. PERIOD O0

The INS company will stick it too you if you let them........I know from first hand dealing with them over and over myself with a few accidents I was in over the last 10 or so years. Dont let them push you around KICK the adjusters butt when he comes to look at your car :slap:

ahh hell its NOT drivable :-[ well you got it at the FORD lot so thats good, the ins company cant really dictate to them what its going to cost. I dont know if you could call other shops and have them go to your car to give you a estimate or not. Its worth a shot I guess, in my wrecks ( all but one ) my car was drivable so I went to 3 diffrent ones and had estimates so the ins company didnt have any room to say " NO NO NO, its going to be 1000 less than that " they cant say that when you have 3 and they are all within a few hundred bucks of each other ^-^

wow man thats too bad, once your insurance company and you work out a shop usually you can go to the shop and tell them you want a cobra bumper and what ever hood instead and there usually cool ordering it but you pay the diffrence, at least there like that here, sometimes they dont even charge you because there already charging the insurance company a butt load over what they would charge a normal company. good luck man keep us posted, glad to hear your okay.

Wait, I can MAKE them give me a rental? They charged me for it and said I would get reimbursed because I don't have rental coverage (they do offer it) but now I'm broke for the week.

its not YOUR responsibility to pay for the rental unless you were at fault.

+ 10000000000000000000 you told me the other guy was at fault right??? so its HIS INS comp job to provide YOU with a rental, if YOU were at fault and got the ticket then its your job/ins to proivde you with a rental

Awesome, prelimarlily, pending their investigation they are claiming I have 0 liability in it, thank you. There was no ticket issued, Corona PD said they don't dispatch for accidents without injury...

I'm sorry to hear about your car. :( When mine got damaged, I saved money by just having the body shop order the parts and paint them, then I brought them home and installed them myself. My damage was minor, tho, basically just a rear bumper cover, so I'm thinking you might not have that option...

glad to hear you are ok, but why riverside county, is that where it happened? and were at in riverside? when i crashed my car (and also when someone crashed into our truck) i took it to a little local shop by my house, they are really good and whatever you want to get on your car they can get it for you, you just have to pay the difference. like i said tho, this shop is in ontario, not sure if you want to lug your car all the way from riverside country to ontario.

what year is your car, btw? the INS company might try to total your car as well, depending on if the cost to repair exceeds the actual value of the car. depending on the actual damage of the car, it might easier to repair the car yourself if they want to total your car. when i crashed mine, the only reason i took it in to the shop was for them to check the frame to see if it had bent/twisted and to help me with some with some rivets.

PS. my damage was....:
crushed fender, broken front and rear bumper, bent/crushed crush zone (in front of the radiator support), bent bumper reinforcement (had to pull the fender), broken corner light, crushed fog light, broken rim, broken steering rack, a dent in the quarter panel, broken headlight
support, and of course paint for the front fender i ruined.
all parts i bought were either OE Ford parts or used/rebuilt ford parts. corner light i was able to glue and fix, haha

the truck was:
2 rear quarter panels, rear bumper, rear bumper brackets, front bumper, front lower bumper (with fog lights, which i didnt have).

the shop performed all the work on the truck, and i did all the work on my car (aside from the rear quarter panel, frame, and radiator support mount)

Ps. like i said, if you end up fixing it yourself ive taken my car apart before (except remove the engine) at home, and if you need help doing that ill be more than happy to lend a hand. ill find that contact info for the shop thats by my house if you want to use it.

Yeah I'm working out of our Corona office at the moment, through November actually. They hauled it to Fritts Ford in Riverside. The damage looks cosmetic, but there is a spot weld in the front on the radiator support that blew off the fender that has me concerned.

I'll be happy with stock GT parts if need be, I've just noticed people say from time to time that they had different upgrades done after accidents and was curious how they pulled that off.

I don't think they'll total it, I'm covered for all my receipts >:D Although if they did I would probably be better off fianancially, lol I could damn near cash out a new car... Easily pick up a Mach 1 I've always wanted.

hahahaa, i almost bought an 03 mach1 earlier this year, but im happy i didnt (one never can predict what curves life is gonna throw at you)

and yeah, most people upgrade to cobra stuff when they get into accidents because its usually the easiest time to do it. you would have to paint the parts anyways, and since you have to replace the hood and the bumper, they need to be painted. the difference is that usually they dont go with OE ford parts. nothing wrong with a good after market non-OE hood or bumper, but id rather get the read Ford part. i was going to upgrade to the front cobra bumper when i had to replace mine, but i managed to snag both a front and rear GT bumper off of a 94gt that was already painted black for $200, so that worked out for me.

Thanks I appreciate it! I'm gonna let the dealer handle it if they have a frame alignment jig, otherwise I'll be dragging it home for myself.

always a good idea, but chances are they sublet the job to another shop. i dont really know any Ford dealers that have a collison center except Upland Ford.
