Some of you may know this video as it is already quite old. It still gets to me though, just thinking how you can just have a barely visible, broken down van in the fast lane on the highway.

You see a blue mustang (new edge) crash right into it - I bet a nightmare scenario for everybody here. Later a red SN95 is sideswiped.

It's good to see though the boy and girl walk away from the accident - after hitting the van at great speed and also being rear-ended later. It must be safe cars we're driving in.

It can happen anywhere. It was in the middle of the day that someone stopped and caused my wreck. I mean it was my fault that I rear-ended someone I know but then again it was just the wrong place at the wrong time. In my case the person in front of me didn't notice till it was nearly too late and was only able to stop an 1 inch away he said. Keep your eyes up and ahead of you while on the highway. I know a lot of times we get on it and then its ok to adjust this, look at that, thinking nothing sudden could happen. Not the case.

I'm kinda glad that our cars are as big and bulky as they are. Can you imagine the impact had it been a smart car, or some other light weight car?

actually the smart car is a pretty tough little bugger if you have not seen this.

the smart car is a tough bugger, but they interviewed the highway safety rep who did the crash test rating on it and he said something along the lines of:

"We gave it 4 and a half stars (or whatever) because the dummies did just fine in the testing, but my concern is the amount of bouncing this car does after the crash, which our test does not account for. In our head-on test this car bounced far enough to easily be considered in on-coming traffic'."

watch this thing's first accident in this video..... it flies all the way across the testing room after contact.

now, to put this into perspective, here's a mustang in the same test.

i'd take the convertible that only rolls 5 feet over the ping-pong ball, myself.
