Guys i just picked up a 96 explorer intake manifold and throttle body for 100 bucks at a local jk and i have a couple of questions. What is the best fluid t oclean the inside of the intake, it is very gunky and dirty. Next question what is the best thing to do with this intake, polish it or paint it? if it is polish what are the tools needed and finally I want to intall this throttle body in the car and not use the elbow i have researched but I can only find swaps for the 87-93 stangs and i found another site where a guy took of the elbow but he was still using the stock sn95 throttle body... any ideas? has anybody done this? thanks in advance.

as far as cleaning it, just get some engine degreaser and some soft (upholstery like) brushes and go to town. i don't know
much about the explorer throttle bodies, but i would just go aftermarket.

When I bought my Cobra intake it was FILTHY. I used about 2.5 cans of Brake clean and most of a small bottle of Superclean. Let me tell you, turn it upside down and plug all the holes except the bottom ones and use the brake clean WITH the superclean and it gets almost anything off. We used to clean the tire machines at my old job with this combo and it worked awesome for that and my intake. Use a cloth to scrub what you can get to also. I did that and blew the hose through it full blast and repeated. Looked Brand new on the inside.

No its not.... Just like ANY GT40 or Cobra intake. You have to use an elbow or fully convert your throttle to Fox.

Mine.

thanks alot man on the cleaning tips, i really want to use this 65mm throttle body just like the picture posted but instead of the sn95 throttle body i want to use this one without the fox conversion there is got to be a way to do do this. I would really appreciate if anyone has ever done this.... or any tips if not i'll just tamper with it and if i break it i'll just buy a 70 mm unit and screw it...... I just don't want to waste the money now.......

I didnt mean the intake itself. I think I would know how to make it work seeing how I have a 93 Cobra intake which is set up like a fox. I was talking about the throttle body. The throttle body CAN work, maybe not with the elbow like you want but I know it can be done. I just dont know if its worth it ya know. If you do switch to a fox style intake you are gonna need the tps, iac, throttle cable. You dont have to have the IAC but my sn95 one was rubbing really bad on the hood.

Fox and SN95 throttle bodies have different mounting bolt patterns. You would need to fab some type of adapter plate in order to mount it. Additionally, the IAC and TPS is different between the two. You would be better off just selling the TB you have now and finding a used SN95 one for cheap online.

Oh, and brake cleaner is greater for cleaning greasy stuff.

Paul.
