Aftermarket steering wheel question

Have any of you installed an aftermarket steering wheel in your car? If so, what did you use? I contacted a company that sells MOMO hubs and they told me that the one that I needed was a MOMO PN# 4525 "we sell hundreds of these and this is exactly what you need" So I ordered it...... Well, I went to install it and it sure does NOT fill in the gap in the column as you can see. I wrote them back, they assured me that is what is "supposed" to work......... Am I missing something here or is there another piece that I need to purchase? (I know someone will ask why... My 94 was a salvage purchase with a light front hit, but it blew the air bags, and the steering wheel looked like crap so I couldnt buy just a new center cover)

i think there's an adapter that you need as well.

Yes, you missing the steering wheel. Seriously though that looks like thats it.

If you look closely at the photos I included youll see that the "hub" sticks up about 5 inches, also there is about a 3/4 inch gap all the way around the base between the base of the hub and the column housing. If I was to put the steering wheel on it right now, you would be able to see inside of the column just as the second photo I posted shows. That is the problem I am running into....... There has to be something to "fill the gap"?

Maybe that's the wrong adapter..IDK?! A buddy of mine put a APC on his ZX2 and the "zx2" adapter was wrong. He ended up having to get an adapter for a Ranger.

the adapter is correct, you have to make something out of plastic to fill that gap up. Get creative. Its not rocket surgery. :santa_afro:

thats the same hub adapter i have anyone get any good ideas on covering that hole it left behind? i wanna see what others have done give me some ideas!

mines the same way. Fortunately, when you put a steering wheel on there it will cover up the gap. at least from your view from the drivers seat

I bet you could have found a new airbag! I saw some on a few Mustang sites recently...then go with the FR500 wheel..no gaps! Yes it is a bit of money but made for the car!

I have to agree, a new airbag would have ran u around $80-$100. To answer your question, it looks like you have the right hub. I know 2 people with a MOMO style wheel on their mustangs and they both have a gap like that

Yes, I had Jack sign my car a few years ago...he is a real gentleman & loves to be around his fans. He stays until the last person has had his car signed. I am building a tribute to his 360R model cars but with differences so that it is never mistaken as a true Roush.

imo aftermarket steering wheels that need an adapter to be installed look like a joke.
(because of the gaps and the style of the adapter)

you could try to make a boot for it with some block cloth or something. i just dont know what else to say.

I have never understood teh idea of replacing my wheel yet. Maybe I just need to find a style I like but even teh gt500 wheels look too big and wierd. I would never do it if it left a gap like that is it would bug the hell outta me.

I did the FR500 wheel for several reasons...it is MUCH more comfortable to grip, more secure in fast transition turns, the high quality leather feels so much better than the stock GT one & it is not too fat or big in the looks dept. Now my hands do not ache after several hours of driving...yes, I am old & have hand issues...so what...hehe
