Well almost, not wanting to exagerate but driving home today i kept hearing popping noises from the front of the car, pops were strong enough u could feel it on the floor , well before i pulled over to inspect the car, my passanger front wheel just came off the control arm, loss control but hit nothing or nobody, thank god i was doing about 40 and not 70 in a freeway, anyways after getting the car home in a tow truck i found out my castle nut just came off the balljoint stud, i mean wtf it had a cotter pin , i still dont know if it just stripped off the stud cuz its dark outside but it just came clean off it, my balljoints are not stock cuz they have the grease thing wich i think the stock ones didnt have, they were on when i bought the car so PO prolly put them on, just want to know what size thread should i be looking at for the nut ?

Should i take my wheel for a rebalance ? The side of the control arm grinded really good on the inside lip of the wheel so i dont know if they are alright, control arm got a bid of grinding itself from hitting the ground but its fine, thankfully nothing is bent or broken and im alive. And to think that before leaving home i was actually talking to my dad about balljoints lol, what are the chances.

have you ever looked at the back of the wheels before? what if it were there for a while causing the imbalance to do the damage?

If you can spare the cash I would do it.

No the wheels were fine before, i have taken the front wheels off a bunch of times before this happened, the side of the control arm touched the side of the wheel when the balljoint popped off, anyways im going to take it for a balance if i notice the car shakes after i fix the balljoint.

Im still a bit shocked , this could have gone wrong in so many ways, i was about 5 minutes from the freeway ramp, if that had happened in traffic and at +70mphs things could have ended very very bad.

It sucks losing a wheel, About a month ago, some people tried to take my rims, but could so they left one loose and it went rolling....one of the most embarassing, frustrating moments in my life...did damage to the rim to so i had to replace my chrome rim with a gold one, and paint them all black.

Yep definatly lucky.
About a month ago I hit my brakes at a stop sign on my way to work. A mile or so down the road I hit again at a traffic light and heard a awful noise. Light changes and that is when I knew my ball joint had came loose. The nut fell off mine and the stud fell through. I didn't have carter pin in mine. The goofball who changed mine put the type in that uses a lock nut. So I changed to the carter key type. Good to hear ya wasn't on the freeway. I know that was the last light for me till the highway then I would have been cruisin at 80mph w/ morning traffic. Kinda makes me want to check them weekly..lol

Same thing happened to me last month! What a weird feeling it is when the wheel comes off and you see it rolling past you.

Going to check my ball joints now!
