I'm throwing around the idea of picking one up if I can find a deal on one, what kind of power are they good for? I've heard they aren't as strong as the stock ones and I've also heard they are stronger, does anyone know the real answer?

Well, I was on the fence too, but then someone said "do you make more power than a terminator is capable of?"

I've never heard of a terminator snapping a drive shaft, and they come stock with aluminum

I've seen a ear torn off one once at the track. I've ran numerous passes on slicks on both my aluminum drive shafts. So I'd say go for it you won't be disappointed with the purchase I scored the one in my yellow car for 50 bucks when my neighbor got his new Stang I bought all his left over parts for peanuts lol.

Lucky musturd! I can't find one used for a 5.0, but it's ok, I'll just have to save fat stacks of cash to get one ;p

Yea the Aerostar one. The only shitty thing is most auto wreckers forklift cars around and unless the drive shafts were pulled at the same time as the engine alot of the time there damaged :(

I've thought about the alum driveshaft a few times but have never found a good condition used one and can't see spending over $300 on a new one

keep in mind, the alumnium DS is a larger diameter than the stock steel. If your rear control arms are worn you'll likely get a Ds rub on the e-brake bracket.

never heard of anyone breaking the aluminum drive shaft.
never heard of anyone thinking they got major power bump.
my car had it from the pervious owner... so i have no idea what change it gave. i can tell you its much nicer to take out than the OEM one. lol.

I think he's asking how much power they handle, not gain.

+1 for stronger. They break from rubbing on exhaust and being lathed on stuff. They are larger, when I upgraded I also had to run a different DS loop. The universal one rubbed.

I picked up brand new one a few months ago and i love it. If you think your car drives smooth now, install one of these and go drive it. Got rid of a lot of vibrations and it'll give you a slight bump in acceleration. It's one of those expensive parts that makes you feel good lol, but not alotta bang for the buck.

The aluminum is stronger then your stock shaft it has been proven many times. I say go for it if you can get one for anything around $200 or less. I have had one on my last 3 stangs and must say I will continue to always use them, not a huge increase in power however you will notice it revving quicker and more free plus it will give you a nice smooth ride and new u joints are always good.

i do remember one story about a broken alum one but its not an example just a funny story. we got a prototype one piece alum for the 05-09s over at AM a couple years back. they put it on one of the guys cars and went to do a 4k rpm launch in the parking lot, got about 20 feet before we heard a loud bang. car just drifted forward and threw sparks from under the car. it had snapped from a crappy weld. of course we all were laughing hysterically, but that's what prototypes are for. they took it back to the drawing board and spent some more cash on quality welds.
