Ok, so i've been making around 16-17mpg no matter how hard I try to get good gas mileage. I'm aware that i'm not going to get a whole lot higher in town but I thought I could get better than 16.5 driving as easily I could. Anyways, I went under the car and removed one of my o2 sensors that I had noticed looked dented earlier on. I also noticed that both of my o2 sensors look different so i'm betting one has been replaced before. I need to know if you guys would think this one's toast by the looks of it. I think it is but i'm not experienced with this stuff.

Here's the "bad" sensor.

It has 255,000 on it right now.. and no, I bought it a year ago and this was on it. Except the driver's side looks completely different.

That's what I'll probably do. I just want to make sure it's broke before I replace it since my parents pay for maintenance on the car.

O2 sensors do wear out. They can stand only so many heating and cooling cycles. There is no visual way to tell. I can't imagine them being dented while in the exhaust stream so something else has caused those dents which may well have damaged the ceramic element inside.

The How-To section has a write-up with the correct Ford part numbers for new sensors.

I just replaced both of my 140k stockers with Bosch units. They look completely different than the stocks and I def felt a boost in performance and fuel economy. Well worth the 110$ to replace them. If you have over 100k, replace them; you won't be sorry!

I already went through that How-To and ordered from where you recommended. Thanks Paul. And yeah, I hope I can pick up some mileage and power, that would be great.
