I did some more work on the 94 cobra intake I bought to polish last night since I could not sleep. I have 6 of the 8 runners smoothed out now and the more I look at them in the satin-look they have now the more I like it. So far I have them sanded down with a med-grit sanding sponge so they are not brushed but just a satin/flat look to them. I have chrome valve covers I could do the same finish to by simply sanding them down as well as a couple other pieces on the motor. I would like to get the engine bay painted a satin black as well as everything else that isn't polished/raw satin finish and think it would look great. Anyone done anything similar and have pics?

This pic is a little old as I have smoothed it out even more then this but the lower area gives you an idea of what it would look like.

the fact that after a day no one on here can post pics has me curious as hell. Something original maybe?

its a little more then half way there right now and this was prior to a few more hours of work on it. The top portion there I took the scale off from the casting with a sanding drum and now I am just sanding those tool-marks out. I want to spend some more time on it tonight I will post more pics then. The bottom half is smoothed out and I will go to a little higher grit no matter if I polish it or not.

Yea that is just about as stock as it can come with a 93 cobra intake on a sn95. That was sarcasm if you didn't catch it. No its not the factory color.

Spent some more time with it tonight and got all the runners smoothed out. There are still some small areas and corners that need to be done as well as the throat, but its mainly flat so it will not be too bad.

I still can't help but admire the dull finish and wonder if it would be a good look although if thorco3 posts a pic of his back up I am sure I will be polishing it.

Its been done a lot before. Just time consuming and labor intensive. Its more commonly referred to as polishing the intake b/c your taking it down to the bare metal and then polishing it so its nice and shiny. I had mine down to this point, but I had the intention of black wrinkle powder coat and to not continue to polish it.

I can still see the scale from the casting on that one, not really the same thing unless this one is just starting to be polished. The one I have now is much smoother then that and almost ready to be polished to finish it on the bottom section.

For some reason I can't upload pics to cardomain this mornin to show where I am at. I will get pics up as soon as I can.

I had no intention of poishing it, thats why it was not sanded down more. Still needs to be stripped down to the metal either way. Takes a lot of grits of sand paper and a lot of work. Looks great when its all done but like I said its been done quite a bit before

You wanna do something cool? Try to get a wrinkle finish like on Ferrari intake manifolds.
